As Shawn said, the Neuse river trail. I think it also links up with the Raleigh greenway which branches all over Raleigh following Crabtree creek and sewer easements, so it is relatively flat. Sometimes in warm weather it smells a little, but not too bad :) Most, if not all of it is paved by now.

2. Neuse River Trail - You can pick it up over by Raleigh PD training area.

Such an incredible trail that goes from Clayton to the Falls Dam (30 miles I'd guess) that has lots of cool bridges going back & forth over the Neuse River. Plus, it really never has heavy traffic unless it's a good weather day like today.

Don't be afraid to tinker with the adjustable stuff to get a comfortable fit. The seat angle, angle of the brake levers/shifters, tire pressures, etc. It sometimes takes a 1/2 dozen rides to get the bike setup comfy.

If you start to get hooked and want to get some free riding data like average speed and distance & stuff, download the Strava ap on your droid/iphone.

It's good to go everywhere now and they just finished the WRAL/Horseshoe Park section.

I have been living on the NR trail when I ride. It is very nice and 2 miles from my front door. Right now going south towards clayton there is a bridge that they are fixing but there is a good/easy detour around it so no real issue.

Jordan and I did a few miles of the Neuse on Sat. Wow, that's a nice trail to ride on, but I'm soooo out of shape. I guess the saying is to get there, you just have to start, so I've started. The bike rode very nice and using Endomondo on the phone was very cool. I started looking on amazon and I see they have a few variations of a smartphone carry and small pannier bag. I was looking at the Roswheel stem mounted bag and some of the other top tube mounted bags.

I wanted a small bag to carry the phone, keys, CO2 cartridge, tube and some basic tools. Any thoughts on the bags? I was thinking the top tube bags might interfere w/ my knees.

Empty peanut butter jar + bottle holder = decent tool kit holder.

I'm trying to remember what I have in my kit... 2xCO2, CO2 nozzle, spare tube, tire levers, and a small patch kit.
