Can't believe it's been four years since this topic came up in this thread,
http://www.thscc.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=11606, but just announced today by Dish: "You Can Finally Get ESPN on the Web, for $20 a Month": http://recode.net/2015/01/05/you-can-finally-get-espn-on-the-web-for-20-a-month/.

It might be worth looking into for those who are keeping cable mainly just to have access to ESPN channels.

I haven't checked it out yet, but I understand if you have access to someone else's (say and elderly parent that you handle the bills for, just saying) cable account you can get into the cable website and watch about everything ESPN on smart TV, Apple TV, etc. I'm really trying to get my wife to give up cable so if somebody can verify this, let me know.

^If the provider has a Watch ESPN agreement, then their log in information will allow watching any ESPN channels they subscribe to.

One advantage of this if you don't have access to Watch ESPN is that there is no contract, so you could just use it during football season etc.

That's how I've always wished it could be. À la carte.

Now if I could only figure out a way to pay for just F1 stuff as it's the only thing I miss about cable.
