Good plan. I'm mostly the same way. Only reason I have those road numbers on a mountain bike is because of a race in North Wilkesboro that's mostly trail but has a couple road sections to link together different trails. And one of those roads is on a hill going down the back side of a big dam on a big lake. And you have to go back *up* basically the same thing pretty immediately, so it is well worth it to go as fast as you can down so you have a lot less pedaling to do going up.
I was in a full tuck pretty much laying on the handlebar the entire way down, too. I've done it a few times now, and once I had a truck turn in front of me and had to take some evasive maneuvers as well as use some brake. I was cussing like a sailor having to pedal up the other side thanks to that one...oh, and the part about almost dying in a horrific 50MPH bicycle accident.
