From a raw "love to drive", "love cars", teenage "Cannonball run" fantasy perspective it is impressive, I found it an interesting read and yes, there is a bit of "wish I could do that". But, yeah, I am going to be that guy who complains about racing on public roads. Enjoy it while it lasts. The first high profile death caused by an attempt will stop the casual acceptance of the general idea. There are plenty of other legal ways to go fast and set records. Also, given he had escorts to scout ahead, modern reliablity of fast cars, plus a boat load of tech, I am more impressed with those who made attempts decades ago given they were likely mostly flying blind in lesser cars.
But if I am going to bitch about safety on the roads, I really should bitch about the Takata "shrapnel airbags" and not fast drivers...
