Over 2800mi in 28hrs, 50min!
In a CL55 carrying 67gal of fuel.
Three drivers.
Ave speed - 98mph!
15hrs exceeding 100mph!
Crossed the state of Ohio in 2hrs at 107mph!

All I can say is "DAMN"! Yes, I realize these are public roads and they were endangering themselves and others, but DAMN!

From a raw "love to drive", "love cars", teenage "Cannonball run" fantasy perspective it is impressive, I found it an interesting read and yes, there is a bit of "wish I could do that". But, yeah, I am going to be that guy who complains about racing on public roads. Enjoy it while it lasts. The first high profile death caused by an attempt will stop the casual acceptance of the general idea. There are plenty of other legal ways to go fast and set records. Also, given he had escorts to scout ahead, modern reliablity of fast cars, plus a boat load of tech, I am more impressed with those who made attempts decades ago given they were likely mostly flying blind in lesser cars.

But if I am going to bitch about safety on the roads, I really should bitch about the Takata "shrapnel airbags" and not fast drivers...

Money can't buy happiness, but somehow it's more comfortable to cry in a Porsche than a Kia.

Yeah, at first glance it's a pretty neat feat. But then pretty much any modern car can go 100mph. The better ones can do it with ease, for hours, without melting the ice caps. Dangerous? Yes, but not excessively so. (if they were sticking to interstates where people drive like rockets already.)

To me, the impressive bit is just getting across the country "non-stop", without get caught in traffic. (of course they had to stop for gas.) I drive a very comfy Lexus, and even that I don't want to drive (i.e. sit in) for more than a few hours at a time.

Also, note how they didn't release the GPS log until a year later -- when they couldn't be arrested for what they'd done.
