Can "stripper" F80 M3's even be ordered by anyone other than a racing team?
Absolutely, but what I was referring to is simply an F80 M3 with no options. It's a huge car but BMW has done an admirable job reducing weight everywhere on the car a lot of which is due to carbon fiber and plastic composite materials such as a carbon fiber driveshaft which I think weighs 12 lbs. The car is huge though...almost the size of the first BMW 7-series (actually has a longer wheelbase than that one).
I was kidding. What I meant was a "no option" BMW in the US.

Is it practical to find one which hasn't been loaded significantly? I assume any special orders have long wait times. FYI the F80's appear to be 4 inches shorter than Mustangs and a couple inches "less wide".
FYI We stopped at Capital Ford this afternoon. Even though their website shows about 8 2015's they have far more than that. Maybe around 24 or even more. Many 5.0's with the performance pack and at least one PP with the standard cloth seats. I didn't see any with Recaros if you care. Most were black, magnetic, or guard.
A high percentage of F80/F82s are special ordered since that is common with BMW. Dealers have allocations already in the pipeline, and it is easy to change the configuration up until just a short while prior to the car being built. Nine years ago when we were looking for an E90 330i for my wife, she had to have a 6spd manual along with some other options, and the only choice was to order one. Back then it took about six weeks...we ordered in the middle of Dec and picked it up the fist week in Feb 2006. One good option ordering one is to take Performance Center delivery in SC. You get a free night in a hotel along with a nice dinner for two also free, then the next day get a 1/2 day for two on the track with a car equivalent to the one you're getting delivered.
I'll have to check the Mustang size again...can't fathom it's larger than an F80 M3.
