Art,

You and Don Forrester should get together. Last I heard he still has the 88 5.0 that he bought from me in 1996. We still have the 97 GT that replaced the 88.

As of May 2013, he did. He wandered into a Mustang club charity car show in Holly Springs sporting an Atlantic Auto Exchange t-shirt, and we almost gave him the "Best Import" award for his "patina before cleanliness" '90 Miata.

Does anybody have a photo of Don's '85 GT? The one that was covered in stickers and never washed? The one in which Don mastered the "Spitzner Spirochete" at the Morrisville Belks Warehouse with a handbrake turn? The one whose timing chain seized at 4000 rpm and 120 mph at Charlotte Motor Speedway and blew out the entire drivetrain?

That was probably a photo from the day he first brought it home. :D

Looking good Art! Question is: When will you bring a new 5.0 home to keep it company?

I replaced the headlight & front turn signal lenses -- that $80 fix alone makes it a decent 20 footer. Oh, and I washed it, but I forgot to clean up the cone marks from the 2008 autocross school.

Charlie - It does look a lot like when I bought it (Easter Monday 1992). No wrecks, original paint. The factory 10-hole 15" wheels are stacked in the garage. The 16" American Racing wheels look like the old Saleen Mustang wheels, but are silver instead of white. They cost $67 each new in 1997 -- a close out deal that Dave Blum clued me in on.

Art, you need to test drive a 2015. I suggest contacting Michael Sperber owner of Asheboro Ford and an ITA racer who really likes helping racers/autocrossers. Long story short we drove an Ecoboost automatic and a GT manual today. Neither with performance pack. Impressive! I suspect I'll be ordering one after "early adopters" report how they do in autocross driving. That is are they reasonably competitive or not. FYI a standard (not premium) GT with manual transmission and the performance pack lists for about $36000 . . . which is a lot of performance and luxury for the $$$

That's $33,383 on X-plan (which you can get with a $50 MCA membership).

The Ecoboost performance pack comes in at $26,712 on X-plan.

I'll be very interested to hear how this sorts out.

I still say a muscle car w/o a V8 is just plain wrong.

Muscle car = V8
Pony car = Maybe not muscle car especially if goal is "sporty car"
Pony car that isn't also a muscle car - Why? :?:

If you request a brochure, Ford will send you an additional $750 off almost any 2015.

I'm still up in the air. I want to like the 2015, but find myself wanting a 2012-2014 instead. After tracking my old 2011 I really don't care for the extra weight and IRS.

How does the brochure discount work? I have a friend about to take delivery of a '15 GT Perf Pack.

It usually takes 2-4 weeks to arrive. Go to ford's main site and request a brochure. I typically put that I'm looking to buy 3 months out. I requested brochures on the focus st, 14' mustang and 15' mustang. I ended up with specific rebates on each (nothing came with the 15 mustang), and eventually a 750$ rebate I could use on almost any 15 (looks to be good for 15' mustang).

The rebate is good until late December 14'.
