I know you can often do better than s-plan but I am looking at a 2.5l mazda3 with a manual and there aren't that many of them around. I asked one dealer what the s-plan price was and he said "5% over msrp". Mazda describes s-plan as "a no-hassle, set price at a significant savings vs. the Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price (MSRP)." What gives?

I bet he misspoke. I would think more like 5% over invoice.

When I was shopping for a CX-5 for my Mom, I got S-plan approval. I didn't think the prices sounded all that great - I could easily match or beat them just by using Autotrader.

Whoever you spoke to has no idea what he's talking about. You should mention that due to his lack of knowledge, that you'll be going to somewhere else.

I mean... Mazda has this available on the website: http://images.mazdausa.com/MusaWeb/musa ... _Sheet.pdf

As a follow up - I got the car slightly under edmunds TMV which is way cheaper than s-plan. Also, I actually fit in the front with the baby seat behind me so I don't need to ride in the back when Cait is driving anymore.

Edit:
Also, mazda3s are kind of huge now. This is not a small car.

Money can't buy happiness, but somehow it's more comfortable to cry in a Porsche than a Kia.
