I just saw this on the Road & Track website (via the flipboard app on my phone, great way to see all that is on the web about motorsports).

What are everybody's thoughts? Pros and Cons. Lets not worry if they have trophy girls or not!

Its definitely interesting.

Pros:
-You can basically take anything with a cage and tires (maybe an engine) to the race.
-classing based on qualifying time implies that you will have good competition.
-Street tires.

Cons:
-Its going to be hard to determine additional laps with changing conditions. So if quali is wet and the race is dry, the idea that you can'd do a faster lap than quali is out the door. So what now?
-It depends on having lots of entrants to have competitive classes, but lots of entrants will mean lots of traffic and that maybe a real pain for people in the top 1 or 2 classes.
-competitiveness will be variable and depend on who signs up.
-Your classing may change, so I don't know how they can do a championship in those cases. Maybe who wins the most races in general? You could also have who wins the most races in each class, but like I said that really shafts you if the turn out is low at some events and you get moved to a different class.
-If you are on the edge of a class, you will most certainly not have fun. If you drop down, you will be running faster, if you move up you will not be competitive at all.

Definitely interested, but I think they probably need to hash some of these rules out more. They need a well defined 2-3 page rulebook detailing the what-ifs.
