I unlocked this thread due to Richard's hypocrisy wrt to censorship and I think Les needs to reply given his immature/pathetic rhetoric on Facebook.

By the wayI was sitting next to a female participant in 2010 at NCAC when the "trophy" girls that Les hired came to the trophy ceremony. She was disgusted and I didn't feel great unknowing of what was going on.

EDIT: Derp I wasn't a VP in 2010, I guess that is why I didn't remember the planning for said girls.

Regardless of what you think of the photos or for what reason, the purpose of the FB page is to promote the club, or as Richard said to be the "face" of the club. Is the content beneficial or detrimental to that purpose? While I am not offended by much, including photos of girls in swimwear, my wife (who is vastly more mainstream in her views than I am) would be offended by trophy girls in swimwear at an event, as would many others, so the content is detrimental. I don't see where it gains us anything that we want to gain, but I do see where it could cause a negative perception of the club, so it should go.

Were they bikinis? I saw one piece Hawaiian Tropic logo suits. Much like a Miss America contestant might wear.

Les Davis: Autocross is serious business, no room for fun. Not anymore apparently anyway. It's funny that this has been referred to as a "debate" or "discussion". I've just seen the "powers that be" silence the voice of the many for the sake of the few, sometimes that is a good thing other times not so much. What are we the Taliban? Women must wear long skirts in photos posted on the THSCC Facebook page? Cover their arms? Burka? Ridiculous

Quote:
Les Davis: I realize that you Andrew an Milko don't get what I'm saying as it doesn't jive with your politics. But effectively what has happened here is the same as burka in the middle east, we have been forbidden from seeing women in a certain state of dress. The "offended" may be different people in each case but in the end it's just a different line in the sand for the sake of avoiding women being "objectified".

lmao

It's not that we're forbidden from seeing women without a lot of clothes on. I heard from someone that there are a lot of places on the Internet where you can see women without a lot of clothes on.

Should the FB page be one of those places? I polled both of the women in my house, and the opinion was that it was not something that gave them a good feeling, to put it mildly. Something that alienates a significant chunk of our potential constituency isn't a good idea for the FB page.

My wife felt it was tacky but hardly worthy of going into a froth over. More sad really given the fact that she views this crowd as frumpy old dudes with bad posture and bad breath with no chance of getting a second glance from Hawaiian Tropic Girls.............

It was 10 years ago and not at every event. It was a statewide championship and somebody thought the extra fanfare would make it special. With the collective attention span of the average Facebook user being so low I can see where there could be concern that THSCC could be branded as a Hoochie Club.............

Again, sad sad sad............

This is getting silly IMO. It would be nice to have a thread that grew to six pages in 24 hours that focused on 'how can I do to become a faster driver' whether it's track auto-x, rally-x, etc... Remember we used to have those threads in '04-'05?

As a THSCC member I'm offended we are on Facebook. Who do I complain to to get the account removed?

We also have had 25 page threads on Year Long Novice and whether street tires should be a class. All the good threads were pissing contests from what I remember. Maybe that is why nobody frequents this forum any more.......?

More likely, Facebook and its ilk have drawn off participation here.

Please read my last post. I left the door open for the thread to be reopened if others wanted to contribute. Thanks for the public and unwarranted cheap shot.

Richard

I'm inclined to agree with this. It's pretty clear that we don't know how to manage our social media accounts properly, so maybe it's best not have them. Our public spaces should be for putting out information, and honestly, should be heavily moderated BEFORE something gets presented, not censored after. If the moderators put the "offending" pictures out there, then we got exactly what we asked for via the electoral process, and there are methods in place to remedy the problem (coming up soon, I might add).

Woot, woot, railroads a comin'

Brice deleted the pictures that Karl had posted because more than a few people, including both Belinda and Kolu, contacted him. Keep in mind, after Belinda and Kolu had posted their controversial opinions of "these are gross and weird", they were shouted down by people arguing that this is history and postulating that it would be great if we still did the trophy girls thing.

But hey, if people really want to see trophy girls from the 90s and the weird mom jeans on white dudes versus being welcoming to women, I guess that's the club the direction wants to go in, so be it.

edit: deleting harassment isn't censorship, just fyi

Thank you for reinforcing my point. We are mismanaging our social accounts.

Andrew, a few time here and in PMs you have mentioned harassment. Can you or someone else provide some details? I would like to understand what the nature of what happened as the topic keeps coming up, but without info nobody can respond. Was the entire FB thread considered harassment, individual posts, private messages or was something else going on? I don't think harassment is acceptable.

Richard
