After reading all of this, it confirms my choice to never join Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, etc. At 42 years old, I realize I am now old regime for this club as this was my 15th year of club membership, after moving to Charlotte 10 years ago. -AB

I think all you have to do is join the group on FB then you can post pictures to it. I don't think there is any kind of approval deal.

I did click on that box. It says pending.

To me, this discussion is interesting on several levels.

One, would the club ever use trophy girls again? That's a TOS kind of thing Sean describes.

Two, is it okay for the club to "publish" it's history in full detail (confederate flag and trophy girls included), or does the history need to be censored? That might include levels of detail...no "bad stuff" on FB, but "bad stuff" is okay once you dig elsewhere (or are already a member?).

Three, what's the Facebook group for? Is the public one for marketing? If so, I might as well get the heck out of it. I'm a lifetime member and quite frankly I was already finding notifications in fb from the group annoying. I don't need event reminders *that* way. So should there be a members-only fb group? My guess is no, since we have members that don't and won't use fb, and thus no reason to be tempted to use that as an exclusive communications method.

Personally, I think it's a certainty that we're past using trophy girls. I also think it's pretty obvious that the trophy girl pictures are pretty old and thus not *likely* to be the kind of thing you encounter when you come to a THSCC event. So while I certainly wouldn't use them as our cover art on the fb page, I don't see a problem showing them *in their historic context*, same as with the old logo.

Quite a pragmatic, logical and a respectful post. Maybe there is hope yet.

I don't know that the history is "bad stuff". As someone whose racing team t-shirt should not be worn in public, I'm guilty of plenty of non-PC behavior, in addition to my fatness, ugliness, complete lack of organization, anti-social tendencies, and occasional lapses in personal hygiene. So I may not be the best ambassador for the club, but once you get to know me you'll realize that I participate and my checks clear, so I'm probably a good enough member.

I think that the FB page needs to be kept PC, while confederate flags, trophy girls (in their historical context), and obscenity-enhanced t-shirts are fine for the forum.

Exactly. Clubs like this are run by volunteers, and those who step up get to make the day-to-day calls. Its like when I get to the rally course on Sunday morning and don't like where the cones were placed. Its a judgement call that was made by the guy/gal who spent most of their Saturday driving the bus out there for the rest of us.

I personally wouldn't have gotten rid of old bathing suit pics on the FB page, but fully support the elected club leadership's right to make that call. If you want a vote, there's one coming up in December.

That's why "bad stuff" was in quotes. So you prefer "non-PC behavior"? Whatever.

The point is that it seems like at least some folks prefer the public face of the club to not include trophy girls and confederate flags, while it's okay to show that to the actual members. That seems a little bit disingenuous to me, but I get it *if* that's what the majority thinks.

I do think it's interesting that you're more protective of the club's public image than your own. Not that it's a bad thing, mind you, just interesting.

My own public image gains me nothing within the context of the club. It's not like we have an entry requirement beyond a small fee and I won't be running for President any time soon. I will concede that since becoming an instructor, I do shave, wear presentable clothing, and act sociable if I am serving in that capacity at an event, but that's to support the image of the club and out of a personal sense of professionalism. If I were not an instructor, then I might be disheveled, dressed in rags, and mumbling incoherently, or I might not, as is my wont.

The club's public image keeps new members signing up for events and membership, which contributes to keeping the organization viable, which is in my best interest. So it makes sense to me to care more about that, as I prefer this club's events to the events of other clubs.

I wouldn't disagree that it's disingenuous to put our best foot forward, but I wouldn't say that it's a bad thing, and it's also generally accepted behavior. I wear a suit to job interviews, even though the dress code for my position is business casual and I will probably not wear that suit again until I'm looking for a new job. Way back when I was single, my courtship behavior was impeccable, and after 16 years of marriage my wife can open her own car door and I will break wind inside the house if nobody else is in the same room.

The FB page is a first impression, so yes, we want to make it the best one possible and probably not the most complete one possible. They'll have time to get to know us better later, after they're hooked on whatever variety of hooning that they signed up for.

Wow . . . I mean . . . wow.

I kept hoping this entire thread was going to end with something like, "Ha, joke's on you - 6 month 5 day early April Fools!"

It's truly hard to believe that some photos including trophy girls warrant any significant attention.

Can anyone tell me whether Triad has issues like this?

And now we've hit every point of a THSCC discussion.

And are people intentionally missing the fact that the incident that kicked this whole mess off was in the comments of the photos?

The Triad FB page has trophy girls that wear bikini tops and cutoffs.

It's hard for me to get in to a state of moral outrage when I have no idea what that quote means......
