street survival is coming up,october 18th, 8am.usual place.

anyone wanna volunteer,someone i take tkd with has license..maybe they will compete..

I'm signed up. For anyone who hasn't done this before, I have a lot of fun coaching the kids and it's very rewarding. There is also free pizza.

It's on motorsportreg.com , look on 10/18-19 and you should see it. There are two days, each day is the same thing. You can volunteer for either or both. If you are instructing, then you'll get two students unless you are driving in the tailgating exercise, in which case you will get one. You will get a lot of seat time with each student, which is nice, although you will need to keep an eye on their tires, as too much time on the skid pad will destroy them.

I also volunteer for the BRAKES school, which is a similar kind of thing, but I prefer the Street Survival format over the BRAKES format.

I have a meeting w/ the BMW crowd next week in regard to the TRSS. From that I'll post up what they need, but typically we'll need general volunteers, course workers and instructors. For instructors, if you've driven a few years of track and 3+ years of autox and can relate positive feedback and constructive criticism to a young driver, then we can probably use you. There will be an instructor class you'll need to attend on line so everyone is on the same page. We may also be looking for instructors that are comfortable in a high center of gravity (SUV) vehicle. Need a little extra care here....

As instructor, you can drive the course, but in the past few years we've been asked to not "show off" your talents, especially on the skip pad. That said you can still have a good time pushing the car on the elements.

We do have to remember the main focus here is making the student more comfortable in understanding the car and what it does when pushed too hard.

I would be a bad choice,my talents are limited to going sideways .But I have many years autocross experience,trouble is....My car is really more for gravel than asphalt.Being the wrx is more of a rally car than a racer,I have driven front wheel drive ,rear and all.and one stint in a bug.eventually the golf will run again!
maybe we need the old e30! that would be fun to drag her out,and play with her! to ride in a car that is hot,noisy,and rides like a truck.no power steering either,once it did...no more does the wheel have assistance.Anyhow, that is simply my two cents,5 years rally cross,more than that autocrossing in many cars.
miata,Z,ser,wrx,eta,e30,and what ever else i coudl get my hands on.rally cross in anything that has wheels! and a old e30 that is a barrel of fun when it runs.
My father says it needs a water pump gasket done,we think that is where the coolant leak is coming,but for a near 30 year old car what do u want?
tow her over in the truck,offload,and play.it actually still has two seats per track rules,belts are out of date,although for SS I dont think i will need serious belts.Everything else is good.Also,many years of track driving,Roebling at least a half a dozen times,cmp lately,at least twice old circuit but I broke twice.

slippery surfaces are my home turf though really,skid pad maybe?

Mostly you just have to relate to the student to make it a fun learning experience for them. I want to demonstrate things like oversteer and understeer and work on mechanisms to cope with them safely, as well as work on situational awareness and talk about things like distractions and other drivers. You have to do all of that without using the words apex, throttle, trail-brake, "key cone", or anything else technical. I also like to push the student to drive a bit outside their comfort zone and have some fun with it. After all, how often do you get the chance to hoon Mom's Camry around the police department parking lot while your parents and the cops watch approvingly?

As far as demo laps go; I don't want to be slow, but I want to be smooth and in control of the car. I want to look like a good responsible motorsports evangelist. Ideally I'd love to get all of the kids out autocrossing; I know mine will be out there in a couple of years when they get their licenses.

Per the TRSS call this evening, we can use some instructors to help us out. We need an additional 7 per day to be at optimal levels. If you've done track events or a few years of autox and can relate constructive feedback to a young driver, we can use you.

Just to add, you can do both days, or just one day for both instructing and volunteering. Please consider helping us with this great event and help young drivers understand car control.

I dunno what my fathers opinions are...I will have to ask him,but we have experience some dont have..like fwd,awd,rwd,and me on session in a rr vw on gravel.fwd golf,awd wrx,fwd nissan,toyota,mirage,you name it. bmw e30 eta on occasions..Ask dad to drive my wrx on gravel,its hillarious .A awd turbo car is a little more than he wraps his head around.Last time out he spun at least once..

I am young,can drive fwd like a demon,and have experience on surfaces most dont have.if not,I will always be around to volunteer and help out. I just remembered,he is flying for the company to Boston on the 12th.Right after the Oktoberfest party at BFI on he 11th.BTW,he does beemers too now..The bmw club will be there,I need ot sign my dad up..So he can come too,I plan ot tow the vw there with teh truck.Unload,(its a big lot) and hang out with the other vw guys.HE may not be around on the 18th,I will have to look at his schedule..All this talk about him,may be for not..

Phil has sent out an email asking for instructors, they are short 8 instructors for each day. If you've ever wanted to try this or you're experienced and can lend your expertise for a day or 2,please contact Phil at the address above. We already have a wait list of 15 students per day and we need to at least be able to help out the students that are signed up.

The class looks like a great idea; I signed up to volunteer.

I've been trying to get parents with teenagers of the appropriate age to sign up their kids will little luck, so at least someone is signing up for this thing.

A TKD freind of mine,Alexandra vidal is going to be there.She is too young for me! Only high schol age..But her mother is from paris,
She used to do alot of bmw stuff before she had kids.She drives right now her mothers x5,maybe we can recruit her into teh club for membership.We havev sparred before,she is very quick on her feet,quite talented too...So lookout!
