My wife's mom was in an accident last Thursday. As always, things are getting ugly and the insurance co doesn't want to pay anything. The mom-n-laws car was a 89 Corrola w/ deluxe trim and had 101k miles on it. According to NADA, the car was valued from anywhere from 3200 to 4500. Insurance is offering 2400. Told my wife to tell them the NADA values. Ins co says they don't use NADA. What the heck do they use. Is there anything I can use from a leverage stand point to get more money so we can buy her a replacement car?

HELP!!!

An 24 year old Corolla with 101K miles worth $3200? REally? Wow!

Wait, is the insurance co not paying anything like you said in the first sentence, or are they offering $2400? And what are you looking for help with?

The NADA numbers are BS. Not sure what the problem is, I'd be happy with $2400.

If I was an insurance adjuster, I'd want to see some comparable ads for vehicles for sale closer to what you are looking for. Which I doubt you're going to find.

You need to talk to Kevin Butler. Each time someone tried to run over his Miatas he got the run around. It takes time and effort but you can get what you feel is correct. Remember to charge for the rental car, loss of use, injury etc. There is more value than just the metal.

Go to Autotrader/Cars.com/fleabay/Craigslist and get comps for as many cars as you can that show your car is worth more. (Or that you can't buy one like it for the $2400). If you find out it can't be replaced for the $2400 you just have to start badgering them. The $2400 is an offer, you can negotiate it.

If the accident was not mom's fault and someone else's insurance is paying for it she also has a neck and back ache that needs to be treated and she has a doctor's visit scheduled.....just saying this will be a PITN

Pam is handling everything and yes, it's a PITA for her. Sooo many freaking cooks involved in this and no one shares info.

I don't know how serious your mother-in-law's issues are. I got the run around from Budget rent a truck when they contacted me. I went with the Whitley law firm and got a much better settlement than I could have on my own.

When my brother had an accident a while back my dad told the adjuster to find another car like his and then get back to him.

I was going to say the same as VK, that car is worth $1500-2000 at best. I'd take $2400 and run :).
