This, from the guy with old BMWs, Audis, Mercs and VWs on the list!

Clearly, you've not owned a P2 V70R! :)

Why not a SAAB wagon?

Or Forester?

If it can make it to Wally World, it should make it to Vegas, right?

Seriously though, I like the TL wagon of all the ones you listed. Are the Crosstours $15k yet?

OK, so there's bee a fundamental shift in the car search today. As Steve noted, I'm having a hellofa time finding something that fits into too many slots. Dick hit on the correct direction I need to take. Trade in the wife's escape and get another SUV. Now the trick is finding something that's comfortable to ride in and can tow 3500. The upside is I don't care what she buys as long as she's happy.

Now to figure out what.... 25k don't go far these days, can't even buy a new escape for that, wow....

It's been almost 40 years (of dollar devaluation), but a 1976 turbo Carrera was WAY less than $25k back in the old days. I suppose our kids will be looking back at when a car cost less than $100k at some point.

Speaking of which, check out the rate of change of the market currently for Porsche 930s: http://www.hagerty.com/valuationtools/HVT/VehicleSearch/Report?vc=1276191

Ton's of slightly larger SUV's that will tow including, of course, the Flex which I think is also low. Ford Edge is just one of many choices. Maybe a CPO "something". Plus if your wife doesn't have automotive ADD it might make sense to up the budget, especially since you will "have" the $15K you "were" going to spend on a "spare", the "trade in $$$ from the Escape", the REPAIR costs for the Escape and for the spare. PLUS the happiness of a car neither you or your wife has to worry about breaking. See how easy it is? . . . says the guy who is constantly repairing a 25 year old tow vehicle and whose primary daily driver is a 1997 Mustang. The "spare" is a 2012 Mustang. Of course, I'm in the SPEND my 401(k) stage. :sing:

Problem solved. This has an automatic, room for the MIL, 365 HP, AWD, low miles.

http://www.autotrader.com/cars-for-sale ... 3323&Log=0

Asking less than $23K. Depreciation can be a wonderful thing when it happens to someone else.

Oh, and here's the original window sticker: http://www.inventory.ford.com/services/ ... T6BG140393

1996 ford f250 turbo diesel 7.3l 2wd four door. we love ours, not expensive, fairly reliable. four speed auto is the weak link.anyway, its huge, but it will tow damn near anything. ford explorer v6 ho was good, but left wanting when towing our 3600 lb tent trailer in the hills, and our car trailer forget it.
our new to us, f250 turbodiesel does not even know its there. the bus is faster, but that is only because our truck is towing, and is 6200 lbs,its a heavy beast. but will haul and tow anything. if you got the room for her, shes great.21 mpg highway empty,a little less towing. and she can tow anything, seat six, haul anything, just parking it is a biotch in many parking lots, and forget drive throughs!

Why should it be a SUV? At the beginning of this thread you said you didn't want an SUV. :)

With a 20.1 cu. ft. trunk, the SHO probably has more real cargo space than the wagons you mentioned. With your belongings securely locked under the trunk lid:

a) they won't fly forward and decapitate you during an emergency stop

and

b) they won't be on display to tempt window shoppers when you leave the car

Did I mention 0-60 in 5.2 seconds?
