The miata has had several names in different countries. I believe the nc is where it was officially called just an mx5 across the world. Of course everyone calls it a miata still including myself normally.

Mazda USA now calls it an MX-5 Miata.

I stand corrected on this. I do recall reading something on the name "miata" being dropped but cannot seem to find anything on it now

Brice, in case you're considering NB Miatas as well, my '99 doesn't have a tilt wheel. Sounds like you're looking at the newer ones though.

NBs are a definite no go. I toyed with buying Charlie Monroe/Eric Petersons NB a while back, until I sat/tried to sit in it.

If you are willing to wait a year, the 4th gen miata is supposed to have a little more power and a lot less weight.

The only concern I'd have with suggesting to wait is that it's likely Bryce won't fit in it. They are going back to a NA/NB sized car.

Brice, it would be great to have you in C Street. I've never driven aBRZ, but Shaun and Scott have shown them to be great cars. I've had my Miata for 8 years now pretty trouble free. I look forward to driving it more than any of my other cars. When I bought it,I didn't expect that I would be owning it for this long. It's the slowest car that I own, but the most fun one. The only down side is that I can't take it on VIR. BTW, the S2K is only for little people. My wife can't drive the Miata because she can't see over the hood. With a helmet on your head fits between the roof hoops. Either car is a good choice.
