Is there anyplace local I can purchase dynamat sound deadening or equivalent? I've added a poly bushing to the rear upper control arm on the mustang to control wheel hop and that is transmitting a little extra noise into the car. Since we're driving to Vegas in the summer, I don't want the extra noise...

Does anyone sell this locally or do I need to hit up some website? Don't need much, just enough to do under the rear seat, maybe 10sqft or so.

did a web search for sound deadening for all the local auto parts stores, nothing much to be had except for some 19x19 3M sheets at roughly $9 per sheet. That would get expensive quick. Ordered some GTMat from amazon that's 50mil thick, should be enough to dampen the noise. $28 for 12sqft and that includes degreaser and a roller. Dynamat from amazon is EXPENSIVE. Almost a buck fifty for 10sqft. Can't see justifying that price.

Thank you amazon....

Dynamat's always been a little spendy. Even the 1'x1' sheets from Crutchfield for the door speakers.

If those 3M sheets work anywhere as good as their headlight sanding kits, you're in business.

Rodney, let me know how you like it. I put some of the really thin GTMat stuff in the Mercedes when I was putting it back together after paint, and I've been hard pressed to tell the difference. Of course, that's a car that was already super quiet to begin with.

Interested in how this turns out. My '07 has a bad case of the rear-end clunk as the driveline loads and unloads. When the dealership replaced the rear axle assembly under warranty, the shop mgr said the '08 he took the parts out of had a thick layer of insulation applied to the rear floor pan where the upper link attaches.

Art,

I'll try to take a look at my '12 to see what it has.

One option for exterior use might be "zero clearance" from Koolmat in Mooresville, NC http://www.koolmat.com/zc.htm

Another option may be something that body shops apparently have access to call butyl pads. Quote below from the '12's shop manual.

Quote:
NOTE: In applications where mastic material is applied as a pumpable material at the factory, replacement of missing or damaged mastic is acceptable in the form of cut-to-fit butyl pad(s) or pumpable mastic material(s) when carrying out repairs.

Whenever replacement of an existing mastic insulator is carried out, the surface must be thoroughly cleaned to make sure correct adhesion will occur. The surface should be 10°C (50°F) or greater before applying the mastic. The use of a heat gun to warm the metal surface will aid in adhesion.

Also per the shop manual there may be Ford parts available for the '08's that you could retrofit.

Quote:
NOTE: To restore the vehicle to design intent, missing or damaged sound deadeners and insulators should be replaced with the correct service replacement component.

Or I can just set stereo to "rear seats" mode to amp up the subs in the front doors :)

Just got through installing the GTMatt insulation and the initial review is positive. So my situation may be different from yours, but the way the rear live axle is installed, there are 2 lower control arms and a single upper control arm that mounts the the top of the tunnel and it connects right under the rear seat. The poly bushing I just installed started producing some unwanted noise.

The GTMatt was easy to work w/ but admittedly, it's not very thick, maybe a shade over a 1/16 of an inch, but as I said easy to work w/ and easy to cut w/ scissors. There's a ton of curves in the back seat pan area so small pieces worked better. I focused on the center section and worked out to the edge. I probably left 6" or so of space from the edge, but tried to cover everything in the center.

I just did a quick spin down the road, and the noise is diminished. Much nicer sounding in the car and the transmitted noise is gone. The seat went back in w/ no issues.

The kit included 3 sheets and right now I have 1 and a 1/4 sheets left. Maybe this weekend I'll finish it out.

So, is this stuff perfect? No. Does it help? yes.

This is what I purchased....

I step on the loud pedal and don't hear anything but that V8 music in mine. 8)

Please do bring it up to NCCAR tomorrow. I'd like to hear it.
