I joined in '99 and IIRC, Mark Senior was President at the time. Becoming part of this club is one of the best things I have ever done. I've had, and continue to have, tons of fun, met lots of good friends, and learned a lot about cars and driving.

Ran with THSCC first time in 1978 I believe (sophomore at NCSU) and also with the NC State Sports Car Club, perhaps with George, in ~79-80...we used to run in the parking lot in front of the parking deck (which is now covered with a parking deck). I recall running autox events with THSCC at Old Rocky Mount airport starting in maybe 1980 (?), NC State fairgrounds, Kidds Hill Plaza (just above Crabtree Mall), and Wilson Mall. Moved away from RDU area in 1984 then back here again in 1992...didn't get back with the club until 2004 Patriot Course event and then in 2005 when Jackie wanted to learn how to autox..hence starting her down the path of addiction to cars, mechanical engineering, and now as a tire performance engineer with Michelin. :)

Where was Kidds Hill Plaza? Was that where the Steak and Ale was?

My first event was in late 99 or 2000 and was sponsored by Sports and Compacts. I caravanned with the local Miata club from the defunct K-Mart on highway 64 in Raleigh to Rocky Mount. Jim Pasteorious was with the group, and I think it was his first event, or one of his first. I joined the club the following year. My membership card is #1087.

Besides Bowie, which active member has the lowest membership number?

Ran 2 events in the Fall of 2007 at Sanford, ran 3 events in 2008, and joined the club and ran a full season in 2009.

I was more interested in rallycross initially since I had a Legacy Outback for a brief stint before joining the Miata cult. I think I googled for "autocross north carolina" and wound up here.

We did our 1st AX with the club when we move here in 98, we did the last 2 events of 98. Then became member in 99 and keep renewing every year. I did my 1st AX in 1979.

My first event I was just a spectator. Unfortunately, it was in June of 2003 at the true last event at Rocky Mount so I never actually drove there. The next event was in Sanford and I was hooked. I had a 91 Integra that I competed with, and at the time it was for sale. It quickly became not for sale and I'd likely still be driving it had it not been for that pesky wall at Rockingham. Good people, good times....

I wonder how many can say they still have the car they started autocrossing with? I still have my '98 Z-24 and still drive it to work daily.

Confession time. My first event with THSCC was the first event at Greenville I believe. Was that like 2003? I had run one autocross with SCCA in New Bern. Who was the nice guy from down there that ran with us? He had invited me to this event. At the drivers meeting Dustin (who was president I believe) is adamant that since this is the first time at this facility there will be no NOVICES, he's shouting that, by no novices he means anybody who has never run with "us". Well I considered the guy from New Bern and Ryan Holton to be "us" so I kept my mouth shut and ran. The rest is history.

I am still autocrossing the same car I started with 14+ years ago...at least some of it is the same car :) Funny, SSM is somewhat static in our club. Robert Plank is still driving the same 911, Cathy and Gordon Taylor the same Miata.

Mine is still the same Miata I started with in 2000, just getting a heart transplant this year

I still have the car I started autocrossing with; my '66 V-8 Corvair. I ran my 1st autox at the Corvair national convention in 1981, after driving it 900 miles from northern Illinois to Denver. I believe I wiped out at least 20 cones on my 1st run. I also started with THSCC in that car, at the fairgrounds in Raleigh. George Bright teched it. I last ran it at the Wilson Invitational in 1996, but I still hope to bring it back after some ill-advised front end enhancements.

I started w/ the '70 Cutlass, then the '96 Camaro, then the '96 328, then the '07 mustang, then back to the '96 328, next to the '08 mustang, then to the '04 mazda 3 and now I'm back to the '08 mustang.

Oh good Lord, I'm sick. Hello ladies and gentlemen, my name is Rodney Wright and I'm a car-oholic.....

I did my first 2 events in my 96 before it became one with the B pillar of a Sentra. Been (mostly) running the 94 since I've bought it in 2008. Better car anyways, it has an LSD.

I am looking for a co-drive this season.
