Bill says probably not. His had a roll bar and Konis on it. Although I suppose that stuff could have all been removed...

I emailed the dealer earlier today. I'm willing to give them a pass on not responding to me today, because of the weather, but no response so far. I asked if it had ever seen any track use, given the hitch (tire trailer?) and the exhaust.

They also have a green '01 special edition. I asked them why so much fancy anniversary stuff was missing from another car they have in their inventory. Like, why is it missing the stainless sill covers and the fender badges, has it been in a big wreck? Maybe they didn't like the questions. :)

What's your price/mileage range in case I come across something that is in nice condition?

This guy has a TON of miles, but the price is nice. And looks to be in decent condition, from at least what you can tell from the small distant photos on CL.

If I buy a Miata, I'd like to keep it under $6K. I found that one, and the mileage scared me away.

Thanks James!

Jason Weaver (co-owner of Weaver Motorsports) is a good guy. Used to race an E36 in BMW CCA club racing, but I think he's gotten out of that.

That said, I don't know jack about the car in question, just thought I'd add my 0.02 about the dealer.

FWIW, Jason and his dad are the co-owners, and they are the son and grandson of one of the brothers of Weaver Brothers Volvo fame.

So I guess it's safe to say they are a car (dealer) family.

Thanks, Bret. That's some comfort as opposed to so many of the used car lots in the Capital Blvd vicinity.

Following is the response I got on the two Miatas he has:

Quote:
Carfax shows minor damage on both cars. The 2000 has been lowered and has a short shifter, it could have been a bike rack or autocross. We are here M-Friday from 10 to 530. I will be leaving early today due to the birth of my Grandson this morning. Please call if you would like to set up an appointment. Both cars have been price reduced for a fast no hassle sale. We spent our money on timing belts rather than packing for discount.
Jim Weaver

The green 2001 is the one I think I like a little more. It's lower mileage and has had some more stuff done to it recently. But I'd have to put my paint meter on it and find out how much of the car has been reprinted.

Link to the green one:

Mostly I think the green is a cool color. It'd look sweet with a set of Panasport lookalike wheels on it. :)

Too expensive. Otherwise I'd have bought Jonathan Roberts' car last week.

Also: no way to easily disable passenger side airbag on an S2000.

Oddly enough, not long ago I picked up a 2000 Special Edition Miata for the price equivalent of $1100 (so far), but it is in much rougher shape than that one. I'm hoping to invest a little time and a small bit of money into it and flip it for a profit so I can pick up an NB in Green, since that would be better for my purposes and the wood bits on the Special Edition seem to attract people who want a nice, cruising convertible without having any intention to race it.

Damn, maybe you're right. I just messaged him on FB.

I think Frank Catena had a Merlot one too. IIRC

Well, I went and looked at both of them yesterday afternoon, and I'm passing on both of them. Jim Weaver is a nice, straight up guy, ad he told me both of them had been in fender benders. The red car was a little ratty, but mostly intact. It'd had its LF fender replaced, the nose replaced, and some blend work into the hood and the door. The top was a little ratty too.

The green car is pretty rough. The whole thing has been repainted, and not particularly well. Lots of trash in the paint. More worrisome, though, is that at least the front half of the left rear quarter is made of bondo. Paint meter wouldn't even register. So while I'm sure they're mechanically fine, I'll keep looking.

Jim later told me that when he heard the words "paint meter," he knew those two cars weren't going to be nice enough.
