My Z06 works fine as a DD. About 20mpg when I drive it with some highway mixed in. Then it can turn into a good track car albeit a little abusive of supplies. :lol: Or if you want a little more DD, get the regular C5 or C6

I don't think you'd like it Jason. No warning lights were illuminated on the dash at all. You need to get a German car to see those all lit up :P

Am I the only one who thought of the "T-Square" when reading the title of this thread?

No, but I did have a little throw up in my mouth when I saw : Unusual position .... Jason Tower. I figured it would involve those Hippie jackets he wears.

if depreciation is a concern, it's hard to go wrong with a well-maintained 964 or 993. Seems pricing these days currently is in the $30s-40s depending on mileage and how infatuated the owner is with the car.

If only I had a big enough garage....

edit: something like this would probably not cause you to lose too much money on resale

i have been slowly coming around to 911s ever since i drove a race prepped '73 model at bvir last year and had a blast in it. plus whitney won't stfu about his 996. 993s are cool but i think a mid 80s model would be pretty sweet. you're definitely right about the depreciation aspect, i don't mind dropping some coin if it'll hold its value.

Since we talking 911 now the best 80s 911 are the late one with the G50 tranny. Price are still not too bad for those.
This one is a little high I think but mileage is low.

993 I will look for a 95 before the switch to ODB2.

absolutely agree patrice, if i were to get an older 911 those would be my two top choices. i also just heard a rumor of a local 996 that's been recently serviced and available for a great price, checking on it now.

Other than Whitney's post that wasn't selecting vehicles from his own garage (bravo), these tend to be a "you should buy my current/dream car" thread.

So... I will jump on the Porsche bandwagon as well. It sounds like you have some good advice on the 911 front. I haven't looked at the prices, but you could also look into as new as you can afford Boxster or Cayman. I am not sure if the Cayman's are old enough to have depreciated enough to get them somewhat cheaply. The main reason I am suggesting those are...

* Porsche (something new)
* Decently high revving engines.
* Mid-engine (something new??)
* Known to be great handling cars.
* Quirks and fixes are well documented (but sometimes pricey)

I am sure Mike could fill you in on the required upgrades (i.e. IMS bearing)

Personally, I would do a mid-80's 911 (generally bullet proof if well maintained) or as nice of a Cayman S as I could afford.

Richard

Money can't buy happiness, but somehow it's more comfortable to cry in a Porsche than a Kia.

911: Too nice for Jason. He won't wash it. Cannot recommend.
