I just got an Email from Phil Antoine and I thought I repost it here. It looks like they need instructors for the street survival school coming up on Oct 26th and 27th. If you've never instructed at one of these before I'd say it's well worth your time and is very rewarding.

Quote:

We've had strong student response to this upcoming TRSS event in Raleigh. Saturday is now waitlisting. Sunday will start waitlisting soon. Coach signups have been very slow. Currently we're 6 coaches short on Saturday and 12 short on Sunday. We can really use your help if you can commit to one or both days. If you can help please sign up at your earliest convenience:

Saturday October 26th
http://www.motorsportreg.com/index.cfm/ ... 66D8D11853

Sunday October 27th
http://www.motorsportreg.com/index.cfm/ ... 7DA6105C7E

If you know other qualified candidates that can help us, please forward this note and have them contact me directly.

This distribution reaches all the Tarheel Chapter coaches in three states. If you've already responded with your status, or are not reasonably proximal to Raleigh you don't need to reply.

Thanks a bunch,
Phil Antoine

Shawn beat me to it. If you have 3+ years of autox or track and can relate your knowledge back to a new driver with positive feedback, then we can use you. We are in need of both course volunteers and instructors. Mike Whitney will once again design the track per the spec requirements of the TRSS guidelines. This Sat and Sun event is the same for both days, so you'll get a different student each day.

As Shawn pointed out, please respond back to Phil so he can put you in contact w/ the right people. Just a side note here, but due to insurance, BMWCCA is running the event, THSCC is supplying logistical support in regard to the bus, PA, cones, workers and other misc items.

I'm planning on being there myself and I think this will be my 5th event. Can't tell you what a thrill it is to watch students grow in confidence behind the wheel of their own car. Always amazing to watch. The big bonus here is, as an instructor, not only do you get to help a student, but you are also allowed to drive the course during lunch and that includes the wet skid pad. "Nuff said....

We can use your help, so please respond to Phil. Even if you can only help for 1 day, we need you!

contact email address for Phil.....

booflick@yahoo.com

EDIT: you may drive the course if you are an instructor.

I have lots of old autocross and rally cros and track and limited drag knowledge. I dont know how useful i could be, however..oct 26. i will try to make it, if im not doing anything else. I will probably just work the course as usual. The wrx has some disposable autocross tires i could destroy, the car eats front tires for breakfast. But, what the heck.

The wrx on wet pavement , is understeery, but on slick autocross tires it is a ball of fun. Never know what is comign next. Autocrossign a understeery car is sometimes dull, but just let it get wet.not only that, i can take four people riding with me at once.

or, as long as you odnt mind the car not being street legal. i could drag the black bmw autocross wunder car out, on the trailer behind the truck. and bring her out to play with, can only take one passenger at a time, but it is a ball of fun to drive, especially in the wet.rwd and light ish weight and decent power, means lotsa tail out fun.

I just sent an email out to Stacey, so I should be there as an instructor.

The subaru guys at Turbo time want to do a get together near the date of the street survival, but what ever day they are not doing the bbq thing, I will do the street survival, I probably will do only one day. But I will help work the course like i did before. I have some used tires from our other mazda 3 driver.
SO if I remember, I can get them mounted on the rims, at discount tire. And then bring them with me, and if dad has to take anyone for rides in the subie, to be riding with a instructor he can do so.I hope the bmw club wont razz me too much for bringing a subie to a bmw club event.!

Can someone fill me in as to what the schedule is like on each day? As in when do instructors need to be there and when does the event end. I need to strategically plan this out with SWMBO :).

everyone needs to be on site by 7:30 in order to make the meetings and the meet and greet w/ the students if you are instructing. It's usually over by 5p. A basic day is....

> arrive around 7:30
> breakfast is usually there
> there are mandatory volunteer and instructor meetings around 8-8:30
> instructors can now drive the course to under stand it
> meet and greet w/ students. This also includes student car tech
> first car off is around 9:30 or so. 2 groups, one drives, one has class then flipflops
> lunch
> as an instructor, you can now go back out on course. 3 words here.... wet skid pad....
> rinse repeat for student groups
> course is changed from individual sections and set into a combined graduation course.
> students graduation

We need some help setting up the course on Friday and help tearing down on Sun

I've just started my 2 weeks of on call, so I'm going to unfortunately miss this event. We still need instructors and course volunteers to help out. This is a great event and helps young drivers. Don't pass on this event...

I'll be instructing on Saturday. Maybe I'll finally get an alignment on the BMW so it doesn't push so badly ;).

Guess I need to finish up the course map! Work has been leaving me little time for fun stuff recently.

Question for those of you who have instructed: We have a bit more room to play with for the "S turns and obstacles" section this event due to a shuffle of stuff south of that element.

What changes would you like to see there?

- More of a figure-8?
- Wider gates to mess with obstacles?
- More "instructor choice" sections for "go left" or "go right" instruction?
- Add decreasing / increasing radius elements?
- More chaos / chaotic gates?
- Things that change over the day?

Just doing some brainstorming. The current draft map has a truncated figure-8 with an instructor-optional call at the crossover point. Ideas?

IF this were a autocross, i would say open and fast. But this is a learning event, im not sure you want high speed in a top heavy vehicle. Anyhow, set it up like a event we would do I guess. I dunno

My weekend just opened up; the wife is taking the kids to visit her family up north and I'm staying home. I sent an e-mail to Phil in case he's still looking for anybody. I wonder of someone else's teenager will listen to me any better than mine does?

Hah. She knows you too well.

If they still need workers, my weekend is currently free.
