Now I don't know what to bring. My DD is a minivan, which I have loaned out indefinitely, and everything else around here is a race car. I was going to bring the Duff car, which is the least racy car, basically a stock-motor Civic EX on street tires, but it is all painted up and bashed up from racing, which I figure might make a good cautionary tale against racing your street car, but if that would be inappropriate then I could take the white Civic hatch, which is much faster than the Duff car, but doesn't look as ridiculous. It does have a minor head gasket leak, but it made it to/from Fayetteville for two days of autocrossing just fine, so it should be good for going right down the street. FYI, when my DD is not available, I generally drive the Duff car.

Then I say bring it. I'm sure it will a conversation starter like you say... As Mike said, young drivers are watching you on course...

I think that any time you are instructing you really aren't free to screw up like you are as a student.

I'll be happy to discuss responsible motorsports with kids; I really wish that someone had talked to me about it as a teenager. I ended up building fast cars and then getting in trouble on the streets in them (two 12-month license suspensions before I was 20). I've already told my kids, one of whom will be driving in less than 2 years, that they will be autocrossing as soon as they get their license. If I ever get off my butt and fix the Sentra, then we'll go rallycrossing too.

I hope to be there in my wrx, on some auto x tires. put fresher ones on front, since it likes ot eat front tires. The body roll and turbo lag should throw my fathr who may be driving her for a loop. His z3 rolls some, but with a big 6 has no lag. Awd understeer on dry pavement, to oversteer on boost on wet pavement.

That was a lot of fun, more than I thought it would be.

If anyone knows where my bag for my small compressor is, then please let me know. It's a small black zippered pouch that probably says "Slime" on it and had a Longacre tire gauge in it. I left it by the student parking area when someone borrowed my compressor and I'm guessing that someone picked it up to keep it from being run over or lost.

I had a lot of fun too. I had a student who was super timid and shy no less. I almost got nothing out of him during the morning driving session. He just wouldn't put his foot down: on the throttle nor the brake. On the last run in the lane changes, I had him step on the brake so much that he pushes his back into the seat and we finally got a glimpse of some ABS.

This was in a V6 Avalon btw.

On the skid pad, I had him get in a nice constant circle with fixed steering angle and then increase only the throttle application to see the car start to push out into a larger diameter orbit and then dump the throttle to see the car come inward again. The car didn't have a hand actuated e-brake so I couldn't induce any oversteer to get him to countersteer :(.

By the afternoon, I started talking about school and college applications etc and he seemed to open up. And in doing so, I think he started trusting me more because he started accelerating more, braking harder and going through the figure-8 and slalom with more aggression :).

Highlight of the weekend was Roger disconnecting his brake lights for the tail-gating exercise.

Second best: trying to catch a football in a Miata with the top down on the figure-8 course.

Thanks for not putting my stall during the tailgating exercise on that list :). Disclaimer: Left foot braking is not effective when your goal is to come to a complete stop
