The wife and I want to head up towards the mountains this weekend, somewhere near Ashville or Chimney Rock. Any suggestions on camp grounds or places to see? We're looking for something off the beaten path. We're both looking on line for something to do, I'm just fishing for suggestions here. We've done Linville and the Biltmore Estate along w/ Ashville over the last few years.

You have any suggestions?

Was going to suggest Balsam Mountain Campground outside of Cherokee - a little further off the beaten path, but a really nice getaway. Unfortunately, it looks like it's closed all season :(

It's a bummer as I had hoped to make it back out there this year as the kid is old enough to do some real camping now, and we really used to like this place.

Please post a review of wherever you end up, as I'm evidently back looking for the "right" campground again....
