Alternate link to the same video
http://www.redbull.com/en/motorsports/s ... eak-record

Watch the in-car shots of the speeds: less than 40 kph (24 mph) to about 241 kpm (150 mph) (at least on top speed at over 3,900 meters (13,000 feet). Guess a bunch of the 875 hp was still available.

I am glad they published the well produced video. For the past day or so the only thing to watch was the absolutely horrible Red Bull live feed. Congratulations to Peugeot and Loeb. I wonder if this will start a mini manufacture arms race now that the track if paved to the top?

Anyhow, that entire event reminds me of Group B Rally from the 1980's early 1990's. Super fast cars, fans on the edge of the road and people running across the course in front of cars (you did see the one person dash across in front of Loeb right?) How many more years will this event exist in this form?

Richard

Money can't buy happiness, but somehow it's more comfortable to cry in a Porsche than a Kia.

Was it still partially paved last year? 1:30 off the previous record seems there is more than just better driver or faster car or nuts of steel....but maybe not :).

Paving was completed in 2011, according to wikipedia, so in 2012 it was all paved.

Last year was the first year it was fully paved to the top. I do believe the car, the driver, and the backing all made a huge contribution to the record difference. Last year the record was won by Rhy's drift car. The other cars that could have absolutely destroyed the record had mechanical problems with later cars experiencing rain and hail. Weather is a huge factor and is why the unlimited cars (especially seb) ran so early this year.

PPIHC has had several changes in the last two years (and before) and one can only assume it will continue to change in the years to come. Last year they started requiring qualifying which removes part of the less experienced drivers from the race. This year they removed co-drivers in an effort to lower risk of injury (there have been debates about this). Crowd control has always been an issue but with larger and larger crowds will come funding for better and better policing.

It was a spectacular drive from Seb and I'm only half sad I wasn't there to watch it in person like I have in the past.

In such a litigious society we live in, they better get a handle on the spectators or PPIHC won't survive long if the speeds/efforts start to go up as they have in the last two years IMHO.
