After a great first season of autox with the club last year, I was eager to turn the GTI into a crossover artist and go off-road this weekend at Fayetteville, and had the time of my life! After making all the necessary modifications (I put on huge knobby tires and replaced my blue tape with sweet stage rally number stickers), I was quite pleased with how the car performed, even with a 'sporty' street suspension. However, something was missing. After seeing 15 people driving in the 2wd class with about 5 2wd cars total, I realized that I owe it to myself, the car, and the club, to find others willing to take the helm of the GTI in the dirt.

Basically I'm looking for any of you autox guys who want to do a rallyx but don't have the vehicular means. I'd love for 1 or 2 people to co-drive with me for the rest of the events this year. I realize that, even after saying this, some of you may not be ready to commit. Just for you, I have created a pros/cons list.

Why would I want to co-drive with Drew in the GTI at a rallyx?

1. More runs per person, shorter working assignments, and it ends earlier in the day
2. Unlike autox, the GTI was actually reasonably competitive
3. If (when?) something breaks, you don't have to fix it!
4. Hatchback = carpool!
5. You get a chance to beat VK in a German-made machine! Jawohl!
6. The latest GRM said if you co-drive with a bearded man, you will be faster
7. My wife's grandmother lives a block away from the Wilson site and makes a delicious 7 layer chocolate cake

Why might I NOT want to co-drive?

1. You may be on your man period
2. The bathrooms on-site are a little further away than I'm used to
3. I could not locate a Hardee's within a 5 mile radius of the Fayetteville site, but maybe I wasn't trying hard enough.
4. Any reputation you though you built through autox will be immediately destroyed by middle-aged men driving 25 year-old sentras on street tires
5. If you are a ginger, you won't look cool driving my red car

Q: But wait, Drew, this sounds too good to be true....what's the catch? Is there anything in it for you?
A: Not really, just want to give someone else the chance to enjoy him/herself offroad and give the club a little more revenue. At the very most I'd like a sandwich.

If the pros list outweighs the cons list, you are a perfect candidate for a co-driver! Otherwise if the cons outweigh the pros, you need to seriously re-evaluate your life. No more excuses - sign up today!

Ive already got the su2 nissan to play with, and my so4 winning wrx. But if anyone wants to play in a quick vr6, we were talking alot today. Because we were working together at station 2, talking 2wd stuff. I told him i started out in a 71 hp toyota, then a mirage, and now sentra and wrx. Anyone wanting to rally cross and lack a car, VW power! I think this is a golden oppurtunity.

Drew, I'm interested. I'll have to look at the rally-x schedule. I keep saying I'm going to make it out to a rally-x but have not yet.

This is simply an awesome post. Well done Drew. Thanks for helping make the rallycross program more accesible to those interested in trying it too.

Ok, I checked the schedule. I'm in if you'll have me.

This does kind of sound too good to be true...

For my part:
1. I'll grow my beard back, thus making you faster as well.
2. I'm also reasonably handy with a wrench.
3. I get beat by my co-driver all the time, so I'll probably make you look good :)

Jeremy

Sounds good Jeremy! That makes one. If anyone else is interested, let me know. Otherwise if any other rallycrossers with an extra seat want to whore out their car, feel free to post here

Well as a "middle aged man" (HA!) with a Sentra, Pete and I are willing to have another driver in the car. I am especially interested in co-drivers with AX Ware experience as we are always looking for bus volunteers (Did I mention that I really hate timing and scoring in the bus?)
The Sentra really seemed fast in her maiden voyage with the Guthrie family. Carl Fisher has spanked a few folks in this car before as well.
Just PM me if you are interested.

Thank you Mr. President! That makes 3 including me. If anyone else wants to give it a shot, we could try spreading people out across multiple run groups

Don't be so modest James, last I saw your beard it was worth way more than 15 hp.

Does James' beard only need re-oiling every 50,000 miles?

Awesome, Drew! We'd love to see a couple more competitors in your car. You did amazingly well for your first rallyx, coming in 7/23, congratulations.

You might want to convince more 2WD cars to switch to rally tires, or you yourself switch to street tires to liven up the competition.

I'll just get enough recruits and make my own 'Drew's GTI' class to compete against each other
