Wow, what a great shot and someone rocking the Pacer no less! That is truly a blast from the past. BTW, that's some pretty serious yawl rate on the Capri....and I thought my cutlass was bad!

Looks like Jim Rockford was in attendance too, parked next to the pacer

That's a Camaro, Jim Rockford drove a Pontiac Firebird.

True, I see that now. That's my trivia fail for the day.

That is a cool photo, though so far I have to give the nod to Rodney's Cutlass. Further analysis of Chuck's photo ... at the far left, a late 70's Subaru DL wagon. Car & Driver described the styling of that model as "the car that fell to earth". But more importantly, behind the guy in the plaid pants, a shiny new 1977 LTD II.

There was a Pacer in THSCC's past too. I snapped this photo in the summer of '89.

I am told that this car started out as an IMSA racer fielded by Team Highball. In 1992, ex-pres Kurt Spitzner swapped its race-prepped inline 6 and 4 speed transmission into his '73 Pacer. Then we sent Kurt away :)

I was going thru my files and found this:

Drifting my '67 Firebird around a cone with the SCCA Muhud Region (Albany, NY) back in 1995. Complete with "ESP 16" on the windshield! Pretty sure I missed that cone.

I need to get that car back on the road.

Cash,

Coming back full circle to the guy that started this thread...that's a cool pic of the Firebird 400. I have lots of great memories of those. My dad bought a 1968 vert with the 350HO engine, 4spd Hurst, etc. Prior to that he had a 63 Vette which was stolen in 1965 and then a '65 Vette that was stolen in early 1968 hence he changed to the FB. I can still remember playing with friends in the street waiting for him to get home from picking up the Firebird late one night. I guess I was 9 at the time. I think his car today would a very rare Firebird since not many were made with the 350HO engine, vert, 4spd Hurst, white with red interior, etc.

Later on when I was about 12, I taught my older sister (guess this was my first right seat instructor job) how do a burn-out. :) She was so happy with this newly found skill that we went over in front a friends house in town late one night, and she desired to truly wake the neighborhood I guess, and ended up severely over-revving the engine and breaking either a rocker arm or a push rod. She parked the car at home after we got there on 7 cylinders and never said anything. The next weekend I found my Dad in the garage with a valve cover off, and he repaired it himself which surprised me. He asked me if I knew what happened, so I told him the truth. He never said anything to my sister...

Anyway, sorry for blabbing on. That is just start of stories I have about that car actually.

This is a photo a friend of mine took at my first (his second) autocross on April 30, 2006.

Body roll, check. All season tires flexing like crazy, check. Orange helmet, check. Course worker taking pictures, check. What a bunch of novices!

Carlton, I am assuming that was Sanford with an incredibly long course. The reflector for the station has a 9 on it; as in worker station #9?!

Instead of pictures how about a video? This was my second event ever, yes, a Triad event. At the time I had yet to move to Raleigh and was living back home in Thomasville at least it was a friend from Thomasville who introduced me to the sport. Some of my commentary is downright comical now 16 years later, I used to really be a foreign car snob, hating most anything domestic, luckily I have matured and become enlightened since those days. Some of you might remember GH Sharp who makes an appearance in the video.

Part two, worth the watch for the yellow TVR in action, that car was glorious.

I have tons of this early stuff on VHS I need to get digitized and online, some good THSCC stuff as well.

Great stories! But I will be raising your and your dad's insurance rates based on all this new underwriting information
