Hi, folks!
Now that I'm back in the club, I thought I'd reintroduce myself. I ran with THSCC from about 1997 to 2003.
Those who knew me back then will remember my 1980 Datsun 210 wagon. It only has a 1.4L engine, but it's the Deluxe model: It has a 5-speed AND a passenger side mirror!

My THSCC membership was interrupted when I joined the Air Force. I'm a civilian again, and back in NC for the time being.

I live in Craven County, a little north of my home town of New Bern. Is there anyone else in my area?

For those who know Nissan stuff: My Datsun is a WHLB310 chassis.
Lest anyone think I'm the only person who wants to race a B310, pushrod motor and all, they're still used in vintage racing in Japan.
OK, so the race cars are almost always hatchbacks, and never wagons. Oh, well...

Numerous B310s heading out to the grid at Tsukuba:

View from one B310, chasing another, at Tsukuba:

I think this video is on the last few corners of Fuji:

Tomei sells parts for the B310's primitive little pushrod engine, but the parts are pretty much for this racing series.
I thought about buying their header, but then I read the specs and realized a runner on their header is almost as big as my tailpipe.

You realize that you're making George Bright very, very jealous. IIRC, his 210 was NOT a deluxe model :)

Here's another picture of you and your car, seen here opening up a substantial lead on the bus!

I'm jealous that you managed a class win at one of the Rocky Mt. June autocrosses. I was forever plagued by an old FS or ESP veteran coming out of retirement for that one event and denying me a place on the podium.

Welcome back, Daniel!

Vanceboro I assume? I grew up in "The County" and now live just south east of Greenville.

Welcome back. You were always my poster child of folks who could have fun autocrossing ANYTHING!

Though I think it was Karl Kaufmann that actually had the Hawaiian Tropic connection that made it happen. These men are my inspiration and this tradition is why I tried to keep it up at least for our NCAC hostings. Alas, I'm afraid it is a grand tradition that will fade away with my parting as I've never found a proper protege.

In packing my house the past couple weeks I have come across some of my own such photos, I'll need to get them in digital form and share.

Nope. Karl Kauffman arranged for the trophy presenters that year (1999) and several years before. He had connections from having served as a judge in the NC Hawaiian Tropic state pageant. Here we see Karl ensuring the safety of one of the presenters before her ceremonial drive about the course.

Nope, no bug. Once a girl loaned me a Miata for a Test and Tune. The clutch started slipping really badly, and I was instructed to park it. Then, someone who had a white Datsun Z race car let me take turns with his car, which was super nice of him. I wish I remembered his name.

That must have been Feb, 2000. Later that year I started racing the red 1996 240SX SE... I hope it's at a good home...

Close... I live in Ernul, which is about halfway between Vanceboro and Bridgeton.
My place has trees on one side, a corn field on the other side, and my landlady's baby cows off to the back.

Yes, I remember thinking you could probably beat me, but you never wanted to race.

No, I'm not going to rallycross the Evo.

The Evo is worth money, and I'd like to keep it that way.
