The above is pure speculation at this point. We don't in fact know that to be true. Nobody that I'm aware of has been in closer contact with RBC management than I have, and I don't have any facts to support that. Jim, like you, I have my concerns and speculations as to the impact of the night series, but I truly do not have the information to justify that conclusion.

For all I know right now, we could just as easily have lost the regular series there, even if there were no night series.

Let me make sure you are clear...it is of my opinion and only my opinion. At least GM will make it so I can run there one more time :)

I would like to know where GM shot the video on the cd in the invitation package. That is an awesome site. Actually the course layouts look pretty cool too.

Yeah Jim, that is some site they show on the video. I'm guessing it is the parking lot of some mega business out in the midwest. You can count SIX courses laid out at one time, with plenty of space in between them! On the black asphalt you can see lines for parking spaces. The area behind it looks like concrete for a another 200 to 300 feet. Then, there's farmer's fields beyond that it appears. In the foreground is what could be the beginning of a sidewalk that might lead up to the main building of the monster place.

One of the shots appears to be on a different site, as there is a stadium type building in the back.

I suspect if we got a list of the places this show went in the past, you might be able to figure it out.

Scott and Dale,
Please don't give yours away. Throw them in the trash immediately. No one should waste their time going to see GM vehicles. They all suck! And please don't even think of going on Thursday. That way maybe I can get 2 turns in the really crappy one I have my eye on
Thanks,
Dedicated GM Owner

Well, I did this yesterday afternoon. After going in the main booth and viewing a 2 minute safety film, I got fitted with a tabbed bracelet and got to go out and drive some cars. In order to drive the Vettes (automatic base models and manual Z06es), you have to "qualify" by driving either a luxury car or standard sedan. I went for the sedans because that lot was adjacent to the Vette lot. The sedan lot was the night series pit area, and for some reason they believe that the manual Goat qualified for that. Mmmm, okay, I'll take that one then please, even if it is screaming yellow. I got to drive it three times, and let me tell you, keeping it in first with the traction control off gets pretty interesting when you're used to a FWD car with less torque than the GTO. The staff also happens to frown on squealing tires as well, but what can you do when they only have about 30-32 psi in the tires on a heavy car that loves understeer? With the traction control left on, short shifting to second, it chimes a LOT and you can feel it take the car over. Interesting, but not my cup of tea.

I also drove the Grand Prix GTP, and that car is a true pig. The "manumatic" not-quite paddle shifters are a joke unless your thumbs are four inches long.

The Vette course is on the old night series lot (sniff), and could be really fast if there wasn't an "instructor" riding shotgun. It starts at the top of the hill opposite from where the bus was, goes into a quick left hand chicane before an increasing radius turnaround to what would normally be called a left hand sweeper between the curbed bushes back to another wide turnaround to the finish. Since we saw a guy spin a Z06 at the first turnaround that's off camber just before I got to drive (and subsequently got his wristband scissored off and was asked to leave even though he was a Saturn salesman), I was asked to take it easy. What a shame. I didn't bother with the SSR or the H2 (which you also have to qualify for, but includes a 20-25 foot high mound of dirt that you get to drive over).

Good time all in all, just expect the course people to tell you to keep it down. Graham and Jim ought to have a blast.

I scheduled myself for 9:30 Sunday morning thinking the same thing.....uh oh....I wonder how many other folks used that same reasoning.

Thanks for the report Wes! I'm heading over there in a few minutes. I'll save my last hard run in the Z06 for when I'm ready to get my wristband cut

I am moving into my new place Saturday. So I figure I need one weekend off to get settled in :) I hate to miss a VMP though.

Did they have a Silverado SS there? Hmmmm just looked at one at the dealer over lunch....

I went this morning with some people from work... now I want a Z06.

Probably a little more than straight trade for the WRX though :)

Just got back myself. Went early this morning. Around 9. Was there with my old man so I spent more time the I would have liked in the SUVs and luxury cars. I think since traffic is so light the staff was being a bit more relaxed.

They have a Jetta GLI up there in the passenger side area. Sort of surprised to see such a highline VW model at this thing. Nice sled.

I abused the GTO with the manual in it. With TC off you can have much more fun. I started getting the impression that as long as you didn't do smoky burnouts, e-brake pendulum turns, or actually spin the car it was anything goes. Talking to the staff, you had to go donkey in a big way to get your band snipped.

While I was there, the people who got warnings were driving SUVs. They'd get out of shape. then freak out and almost come to a full stop. Pretty obvious to the staff that the driver had exceeded his/her comfort range.

YMMV. Like anything else it's all perception.

Z06. That was fun. I actually waited to see how my dad did, and while I'm standing there one of the guys started griefing me. Because I showed up at a GM event with a Mazdaspeed hat. And that they can pick out guys like me. He was joking. Mostly.

So Dad wraps up his lap and me and the Joker head to the Z06. We get in and then he gets a little more serious. And asks what I drive. I tell him a Miata. He asks if I auto-x it. I say yes. He says this is like a Miata on steroids. Then some sales pitch. Stuff.

We're heading for that first turn and he says you are going to have to brake. Oh yeah. Brake pretty late (for him) get the car turned and remember that there's a lot more go in this car than mine so I just roll on the throttle. Joker made some vaguely positive comment.

Getting into the last sweeper, I got a little greedy with the throttle and had it step out a bit. Just a little correction and it was all fine. But Joker had to comment about judicious use of the throttle. I admitted that I had gotten a little ahead of myself. Pulled in. We chatted about the car a little bit about auto-x. Good.

The SSR handles like a 66 Mustang. My ridealong for that, while much cuter, was not nearly as into the performance side of things. Heading for the first turn, she says: "This isn't a corvette."

Yeah. That's pretty obvious. Eased up since she was starting to stress. That truck is just that. It's still a truck.

You can't really beat the cost on this thing. $0.

Maybe an ITR in DS.
