I wish I had had a roll cage today. I was driving the Wake County School vehicle that was rearended and knocked into the gaurdrail on 440. I ended upside down on the beltline.

Here is the WRAL story which has been corrected.

http://www.wral.com/traffic/story/11303931/

Here is what my truck looked like after they loaded it on the rollback.

Image

My boss took other pictures so I should have more tomorrow. Meanwhile I got out of it with an abrasion to the forehead and some gouges in my left arm. Boy I am sore.

Image

I exited through the driver's window opening. A couple of guys gave me a good tug.

The Box truck hit me hard enough to buckle the work body. Funny I had all the hubcaps and trim rings that morning. I will go see the truck and take some more pics today or tomorrow.

I spent 4 Hrs in the ER getting X-rays and CT scans. They stiched up my arm but 2 places they did not stitch started bleeding again so I spend another 3 Hrs getting sewed up some more.

More Pics.

Man, looking at the pics it looks like the box end of the truck saved your bacon George. VERY glad to hear you're OK and not more seriously injured.

So what did WRAL get wrong in the report?

WRAL said I swerved and hit the gaurdrail. The box truck was behind me and drilled me from behind and that sent me into the gaurdrail. I did not even have time to say Oh S*** before I hit the rail.

Well, I didn't read it as saying that *you* swerved. It said, "The collision caused the Wake schools truck to swerve and hit a guardrail and flip". I agree that "swerve" implies a person did it, but I think they just needed a word to say that it knocked you into the guardrail.

Anyway, those photos look bad- you're a lucky man!

People can be dumb. It is fortunate you survived... The truck is a write off but you survived that is important.

Wow. Man that's pretty wild and I'm glad you're safe. Perp's going to be in a bit of trouble on top of the accident, DWI and open container and to make it even worse, was the fact that it was 10:30am or so.

I'm not a big supporter of suing people just to sue, but this guy was stupid and you could have lost your life considering the damage to the truck. I think I'd seriously consider a suit against this numbnuts driver....
