That's what I drove in high school and part of college. Then, when it was practically falling apart at 100k miles, I bought a 1986 Honda Prelude, and haven't been very interested in domestic car companies since. (Ford has been changing that in the past few years)

Meh, at 1,900 lbs it gets about 22/23 MPG average

How about a Mazda 808 coupe? Looks like an RX-3, but with a 4 cylinder. The fact that I remembered the existence of this car is not a good sign.

Now my first choice for you is the 1970 LTD Convertible that Mike Whitney suggested. Did you notice that it's brown? And it has a 390. Slap a trans cooler on that C6 and you have a new tow vehicle!

A few posts ago you mentioned a used Ferrari. Well, we all know that would be a maintenance nightmare, and your neighbors would whisper to each other behind your back -- "He just bought an EIGHT YEAR OLD car... tsk. He must not be doing very well."

Well, you show them! Ferrari now offers seven years of complimentary maintenance on 2012 models:

Not only can you walk tall in front of your neighbors, you don't have to worry about costly service visits. Problem solved!

Subaru wrx 2005. that is what I got and can take any weather, any time. I just have mud and snow tires on her and she is great on snow or tarmac wet.She is not the most efficient thing, but she does ok on long trips. For four seats awd and a turbo, it does great.Or, a little older bmw 3 series . we love them here.. we have had several. My mother has a 2000 bmw 528i sedan., my father the z3. 328i would be great car for street.

I think I am going to add another requirement.

* Luxurious enough that I can enjoy things like Audiobooks, and makes the drive to work a quiet non-event for both myself and passengers or fun enough I can actually enjoy the drive.

The everyday appliances that I had looked at previously didn’t meet either of those. They were about as middle of the road as you can possibly get. I have all but eliminated the Honda Accords and Camrys of the world
