I like the mazda 3's. What didn't you like about it? What about a 4 door VW Golf? Gave one to my son Drew, very fun car to toss about.

Just took a look because it was there. More than I am looking to spend. As for the VW, see my comment earlier about them.

We are on vacation now so I'll pick up the search next week.

after recently pricing synthetic oils, that is not a small sum with which to contend....

I wouldn't run synthetic in an MS3. You burn through oil so fast that you'd be burning money running synthetic :).

found elsewhere on another section of the forums.

A friend of mine is selling the following car, let me know if you want to look at the car. Email me at sspampi@yahoo.com

1998 Audi A4 2.8 Quattro 4 door sedan
Pearl Paint (good for age)
Cream Leather & Dark Blue Interior (great for age)
5 Speed Tiptronic Automatic (Tiptronic still works great)
Fog Lights, Heated Dual Front Seats, 6 Disc changer, Power everything, Sunroof
182K miles (75/25 highway & city)
All Maintenance Records since 2001
Only known issues are: tape player doesn’t work, small (repaired) chip in windshield, central electronic display is slowly dying, CC is finicky & Gas gauge is not accurate (gets about 315 miles to a tank)
I am 3rd owner; Parents bought it in 2000 from CarMax in Raleigh
$4500 obo

Same logic applies for what oil to run in the RX8. Not to mention that whole debate of how well synthetics burn in that whole process anyways...

Holy miscommunication, Batman  I was just talking about how oil is expensive in general. The synthetic comment is relevant only because I use it in the S2k and Subaru.

Carry on with the tribology offtopic nature of the discussion, however. It is a very interesting subject!

While I haven’t put too much effort into looking, the few I have looked at have been disappointing.

They fell into these categories:
Too Small (having a couple of tall teenagers kind of kills that)
Made of gold according to their owners
Trashed
Boring

So I am thinking about changing my tactic a bit. I might be going older for something unique or at least interesting. I know that getting a Camry or an Accord is probably the most sensible approach, but this is a 5th car so I can afford to be a little more risky. I would like to have a little more luxury or sport than what those have to offer. I just don’t want to spend a small fortune to keep it up, or have it broken all the time since that defeats the original purpose. Suggestions?

I did find a high mileage G35 I liked, but it was more than I have budgeted.
