I would just upgrade to Movie Maker Live. It's easy to use and free. if you want real editing power then I like Power Director by Cyberlink.

As far as editing the video in Movie Maker its actually pretty easy. Start with your video and trim the start and finish the first segment that you want. Once you have that add the original video back to the timeline/edit space and trim it back to restart where you want it to. Just repeat this until you have what you want. One of the nice things about cutting the movie this way vs just slicing it down is you can add transitions and titles between the cuts to make everything look smoother. This does not use up any more space because the original video is just referenced until you actually "Produce the movie" and a new video is created.

One of the nice things about MML is it can publish directly to Youtube, Facebook, and Vimeo. And if you use MML Youtube even lets you publish longer movies than if you just upload one.

My last few movies I actually used MML vs the paid Power Director that I own since it was easier to use.
