Has anybody else had a problem viewing Netflix online? My problem started Saturday morning. MicroSoft had updated Silverlight. After this when I try to view anything I get a black screen in my browser window with no viewer controls. I am also getting no error messages.
At Netflix suggestion I have done the following:

Removed and reinstalled Silverlight
Tried IE 8, Google Chrome, and Firefox.

I have also flushed my cookies, gone into the registry to look for bad links to silverlight files (none), rebooted a number of times.
I also called MS Tech support and was told that they do not have free support for Windows XP anymore and support for silverlight is limited to installation and removal only. They did offer paid support.

I am running Windows XP, IE 8 on an older P4 machine.

Blam! Probably the problem. I know you said you reinstalled Silverlight....was it the prior version you reinstalled or the new version?

Might be time to upgrade the OS, too.

I installed the new version of silverlight 5.1.1 If I could have rolled back to the previous version I think I would be OK. This machine does not have enough memory to run System 7 and SIMM memory is out of fashion and expensive now. I am planning on buying a new machine this year just cannot swing it this month.

As an alternative, I bought the Sony BD player with wifi from Costco and stream Netflix through it on the family TV. Works very well, only paid $110 for it. Cheaper than a PC upgrade, at least.

There's lots of devices that stream netflix now. Apple TV, Roku, Nintendo Wii, not to mention players for phones, iPads, etc. I was at a friend's house the other night and wanted to watch something on Netflix and used the HDMI connector for the iPhone to put the show on the TV in HD. The picture quality was excellent, especially compared to crappy cable.

I was able to solve the problem without help from Netflix or MicroSoft.

I found http://www.oldapps.com/silverlight.php
They had old versions of silverlight available.
When I went back to version 4.0.605 netflix started streaming again.

I called Netflix support back and they only wanted me to update to the latest and greatest version again. She did not seem the least bit bothered by the fact I had done this at least 3 times since Saturday and it did not fix the problem any of the times I did that. :stick:

At least she spoke english.
