...for a week! Won a drawing at work and I'm now catting around, well, more like back and forth to work only and "educational trips". Was planning on bringing it to the meeting on Wednesday so you guys could look at it. Interesting car, but I have to say right up front that I despise the regenerative brakes. VERY strange feel to them. I guess I'm an old guy now, but not a fan of the all digital display. I like my old school gauges.

BTW, I've called Randy's and they're good to go for having us there on Wed.

Tell them you need it for the next AX. If Chris can bust out of jail you can have your own Electric Car class

I have driven one.its its faster than a prius, thank god. Even looked it up, not a rocket, but about the same as my moms old 525i sedan single cam.
I think that having a American hybrid its about time, finally america has something to compete with a prius..YAY! I am proud of chevy and of America.
I like the way it works too, the engine only charges hte battery, does not turn the wheels at all. So your range can be rather good on elec alone.
Handles probably like a American car, but hey, we made a hybrid that while pricey, is just as good as the prius. I am happy for that, also it looks better too.
The prius is a dog and looks funny too.

All i need are two more tires for my wrx. And I can come to the autocross and run my car again... The bmw is being cantankerous.. I Think a tear down is in order sadly.. But if I can score two more tires for my wrx and mount them.. I can run it against your volt.
I probably have more straight line, but the handling on asphalt wiht that suspension is not... inspiring, it is agile enough yes.. But the body roll is incredible .

The chevy volt is getting somewhat common around Raleigh, I saw a few today going around the city. And oh yeah>.. Meeting this week.. everyone come to look at the volt and eat too much pizza.. I can tell you about my trip to VMP to watch the East Coast Truckin Nationals, and staying in a real bad hotel.

Careful Rodney, you might start to like it.

There are things about the Volt I do not like
  • Rear seat headroom is too low for me (LEAF has inches more than the Volt.)
  • Interior styling
  • Short "battery only" range

Not quite true
http://www.plugincars.com/exclusive-chevrolet-volt-chief-engineer-explains-volt-drivetrain-says-volt-electric-vehicle-90758.ht
  • The Volt has three distinct motive forces in it: a large electric motor, a small electric motor/generator, and a 1.4 liter engine. Up to two of those three forces can be combined in select ways through the Volt's secret sauce drive unit—given the road demands and state of charge of the battery—to drive the vehicle.
  • Only the large electric motor is capable of moving the car forward on its own. The small electric motor/generator and the gas engine can only ever be combined with one of the other motive forces to drive the wheels.
  • Even when the gas engine is on and partially driving the wheels, it cannot operate without electricity flowing to one of the other motors.
  • The gas engine, under most conditions, will be used to drive the generator and produce electricity, and will not be used to drive the wheels.
  • There is no "direct" mechanical linkage between the Volt's gas engine and the wheels, rather there is an indirect linkage that is accomplished by meshing the power output of the engine with the power output of one of the other two electric motors.

It's a powerful concept, but in its current state I find it very easy to resist. I wouldn't spend any Franklin's on it.

i'd be pretty amped up to drive one myself, certainly would get a charge out of it. but without some lightning it's too heavy to induct into the handling hall of fame. try mediation - chanting "ohm" several times before driving might help you get reddy.

I 100% agree. It's hard for me to even get into the back seat and I can't physically fit without the rear hatch open. Feel like Lerch from the Addam's Family when I sit back there. As for the interior, the center stack is a pearl color and the buttons need more contrast, right now it's hard to see.

I'll reserve comments until the end of the week for whether or not I'd buy one.
