The wife is jonesing for some “good” pizza and something different from pizza hut and mellow mushroom joints. What do you guys like in regard to favorite pizza places? I guess we’re looking for something a little different. I’ve heard that Lily’s pizza is good, but I've never tried that.

Suggestions?

Lilys is good, plan on calling ahead and taking out as it's usually a zoo inside. For plain ole pizze my favorite in the area is http://www.theoriginalnypizza.com/. I've only eaten from the Harrison Square (Where Rally Point is) location.

Lilly's is pretty good but my favorite pizza in town is Capital Creations on Wake Forest Road but it's only takeout. Moonlight Pizza on Morgan is supposed to be pretty good too.

One of my all-time favs is Italian Pizzeria (also the best "greasy as hell" cheesesteaks around IMO) but they're only in Chapel Hill, Durham, Rocky Mount and Goldsboro.

Oh no you didn't. Did you just use Pizza Hut and Mellow Mushroom in the same sentence? Mellow's crust isn't traditional, but second to none. Pizza Hut is just nasty.

You had it at the bus day...Anna's in Apex is pretty good.

I've been gone from the area for a long time, but I still love Lilly's Pizza. The original store in 5 Points is loud, funky, and full of kids and hipsters, but the pizza never disappointed. My last slice of Lilly's was 2004, but hopefully it hasn't changed.

Ruckus pizza is quite tasty, good beer, their garlic knots are AWESOME. I'll agree with Stephen though, I'm not so sure that Mellow Mushroom should ever be in the same sentence as Pizza Hut, its pretty damn good IMO.

We like Papa Murphy's for something different. It's take-n-bake. They make it right in front of you (sorta like subway) then you take it home, bake & enjoy. Their cowboy pizza is my favorite - with extra sauce. :D

I'm going to have to try Lilly's. I've heard all about it and lived here for 25+ years and never been.

Also their chopped salad (Shredded iceberg and romaine, applewood bacon, sweet corn, tomatoes, fresh avocado and Ruckus house dressing topped with crispy potato straws) is AMAZING and they make a 24'' pizza in case your really hungry. They have 3 locations: Raleigh, Cary, and the Morrisville location opened two days ago.

I have also heard Lilly's food is good but the atmosphere is hit or miss and beer selection is lacking.

If you're out my way, I'd highly recommend Two Cousins pizza. They're in the shopping center with food lion at I40 + hwy 210 (exit 319). They have another restaurant in Angier and they also have a slightly fancier place at hwy 50 and 42 called La Piazza.

This is authentic NY style pizza that is the best around.

Eaten at La Piazza many times and agree, it's very good pizza.....

We're a fan of Lilly's. On the weekend I order in advance and carry out. The wait can be crazy on a nice day. Also, no real AC in the summer, so take that into consideration as well. It's no frills good pizza. Their Hawaiian or whatever they call it is my favorite. More ricotta than you know what to do with!

I second Ruckus as well, I also think Brixx in Briar Creek is pretty darn good too.
