My daughter works with Les Davis and she just told me his Mustang hydroplaned in the heavy rain on Saturday. The car went of the road and hit a tree. His L4 or L5 vertebrae is 75% crushed, and he is scheduled for surgery tomorrow. The doctors say that he'll be up and around 2-3 days after surgery but she's not sure how long it will take him to recover totally. I believe she said that he was a WakeMed.

man, that's terrible news. Thanks for the post up Mitch. I'll try to call and see if I can info on him today. I'm sure he's appreciate a visit. If I can hold of him, I'll ask if there's anything he needs....

So stupid question. Does anyone know his full name? It may not be listed as Les in the hospital.

I called Wake Med and he is indeed there at the New Bern Ave location. Surgury is scheduled for this afternoon. Les would prefer not to have visitors today. His room is 5B26. Les said he'd be happy to see folks tomorrow. I didn't ask him what he needed, seemed a little out of it, but he did seem to be in good spirits otherwise.

He also stated the car was totaled, but he did have full coverage. I think we'll have Les back out on course in very short order :D

Thanks for the update. I saw this last night and was kind of stunned. Didn't know what to say or post! I hope the surgery goes well and he is back home soon!

Money can't buy happiness, but somehow it's more comfortable to cry in a Porsche than a Kia.

This definitely sucks; however, the marvels of modern engineering and medicine will make everything OK.

So sorry to hear. Hope all goes well, as I'm sure it will. Les is tough.

NOOOO, that is terrible. Thanks for getting the details, Rodney. I'm definitely pulling for Les to make a full, speedy recovery. When he's up for having visitors, I'll definitely try to stop by.

Rain really, really, really sucks when it comes to cars and racing. :(

Mike Dishman just called me with the news. Praying that the surgery goes well today and he recovers quickly.
