it is a 4 mile foot race, through muddy woods.. in NC, 4/28/2012 is the next race.

this is a bit much for me, however maybe hiking speed i could complete it.. not running though, that is a bit much.

This is very similar to the Warrior Dash, Rugged Maniac, USMC Mud Run, and PLENTY of other similar races. Pete, if you want to do one, check out Warrior Dash and Rugged Maniacs. They are advertised as 5K (3.1 miles), but many are usually a bit short of that in terms of distance. The obstacles aren't so bad for those two, either. There are plenty of people who do them that can't really *run* the entire thing and I guarantee you wouldn't be last if you just jogged between a couple of the obstacles.

Do prepare to use shoes you can donate when you're done, or be willing to soak and hose them out well. I highly recommend some actual trail running shoes since they'll have big treadblocks, as there is serious mud at some point of most of these. The advantage of good trail shoes is they are usually made to be cleaned, so no need to toss them.

These events are like huge parties, and thus they have food and beer available after you're done (for a price, but it ain't bad). And usually some decent live music, too.

The USMC Mud Run is a team event and a good bit more serious than the others. It's 5+ miles and the obstacles are WAY tougher than WD or RM. I've done all of those and a couple more different ones, and they're all a blast. Right now I've got a really good team planned for the USMC Mud Run coming in April (Columbia, SC), and we did it last year so we know the obstacles fairly well. Should be fun.

Ray, Kevin, Liz and I (and another friend) ran the mud run last year in cary. ended up being close to 2.5miles. horrible obstacles and no after party. a few days later N&O ran an article about how it lacked pretty much everything. even mud.

Yeah, that one was bogus. The big name ones are always decent, at least.

I did the Warrior Dash last year and enjoyed it a lot. It was tough for me, but the only other competitive running event I do is the Krispy Kreme run (which I will brag I ran my best time ever in this year despite the distance going up again).

I'm interested in this. I'm not fast, but let me know if somebody is getting a group together.

i could be co erced in to doing this, but only at hiking speed.. i cant put up a 4 mile run . My father and I often hike a few miles in the mountains, every once in a while. we run alot in tae kwon do.. I wanna see just this is about.. just out of curiousity. I am not looking to win, I just wanna complete it. It intrigues me.

If I am not dong anything else that weekend, I could hike it.. like i said a 4 mile run is a bit much for me.
