An acquaintance of mine dug the Honda Trail 70 out of a barn that she used to ride when she was a little girl. She sent me a couple fuzzy pics of it, but it does actually look very good. Heat shield on the exhaust even still looks shiny. It's so good now she really just wants someone to clean it up and get it running good, she does NOT want a full restoration on it.

Anyone know of anyone in the area I could recommend that could do her right on it?

There's a guy in Garner that works on old school stuff off of hiway 50. I'll have to dig up his name and forward when I get home.

The cleaner the shop, the higher the shop rate. I don't think she could afford his prices.

Seriously. He had one of the old Honda trail bikes not too long ago. Check with him.

I would be surprised if it needed more than a good carb cleaning and some new gas. Horizontal Honda single cylinder engines seem to be able to survive a bomb being dropped on it.

Wow, my first bike was a 1974 CT-70/Trail 70. I was 12 or 13 at the time and was able to get it running (tells you how simple they are). If it has been sitting for a while, the carb will need to be gone through. 2 10mm bolts, a banjo clamp on the rear and the slide piston assembly un screws out of the top and can stay with the throttle cable. Points will need to be cleaned, and it is likely the gas tank will have some rust in it. The tank wedges into the stamped frame under the seat. I used to clean them by removing the tank and putting some gravel from the driveway in it, shaking it around, then flushing out the debris. Remember I was a kid at the time. The petcock should be checked as well as there is a screen in it, and it is likely gummed up from old fuel and the shut-off vavle itself is probably stuck. Some small Honda's required a battery to run, the early Trail 70's did not. The stator assembly generates the energy for the spark. I am sure half the people in this club could get it going for her without much difficulty. The Honda dealer could, but would charge an arm and a leg. Good luck!

I had been looking for one of those, I would have traded my left arm for one when I was a kid. I decided that the only use I would have is taking it to the track so I decided on this instead :

73 HOnda cb350f Like I really need it! No time frame of when I will complete it just piddling with it now.

If she wants to sell the 70 let me know though.

Hey Cline, I have a Honda Passport 70cc if you're interested. It can't really go off road like the Trail 70 can, but it's a fantastic bike.

If I wind up keeping the C70, I'm going to do horrible, horrible things to it (i.e. - dump money into making it go from 72cc -> 140cc).

I won't bore you with stories about my brand new Honda 50 when I was in High School and early college. Top speed down hill with a tail wind on a good day of 45 mph didn't cut it in traffic. Normal conditions roughly 35 mph was practical.
