Ok, one caveat....I just found out a bit more about how insurance works for these so I may not actually get them done right away. They are covered under comprehensive and I had previously had a huge deductible for that, thinking it saved me more in premiums than it actually did. I'm lowering that to $0 deductible now so if this happens again I can get it covered at no cost at all.

Finally got this done on 2 cars Paid one out of pocket because it wasn't really "damaged" - just old enough that it was bothering me with glare.

Had Al from SOS Windshield come and do it and could not be happier. Felt badly because he broke one of them himself while installing and had to wait for his son to deliver a replacement, so I hope he didn't lose too badly on it. I chipped in an extra $25 to help the cause but doubt that covered it.

I like him a lot and will be using him exclusively from now on when I need something. Really nice guy, great company, excellent service, very communicative, and not any of the big chain type of problems.

Brian,

thanks for following up.

Just curious, but what brand of glass did they use on the E39 and did the price include the black filler/trim strip that goes around the perimeter of the glass?

Bret, I didn't ask the brand, so I'm not sure. Price included new seals all the way around both cars and all labor. I ended up paying $200 ($225 with the "tip") for the out of pocket car, and the other was covered by insurance.

$200? That's $125 less than the quote, right?

Did they cut you a deal because you did 2 windshields and one was billed to insurance??
