That RedBull car is unrealistic, in GT5, the car I like to drive on the ring is this one below.
I used it for the 4hrs endurance race on the Nurburgring. Its not as fast as the other on the long straight but every
where else its faster. At the end of the 4hrs I got usually +- 8 min. lead on the 2nd place car.
Try it you will like it.

damn, down to t-minus 2 weeks and counting..... Wrapping up some details for the trip. I have a VW Golf diesel wagon, which is different from just the Golf on hold to drive around in. Rental cars are spendy in Germany. This is going to set me back ~800US for the car plus an automatic charge for deductibles at the tune of $1700. Assuming I don't wreck the car or it's stolen, I get that money back.

Anyway, I'm looking to borrow a power converter if I can. Anyone have one? Taking the laptop and a few other items I'll need to run on their 240 volt system.

Check your items, but many if not most electronics run dual voltage (I can nearly guarantee your laptop does), so you only need the $10 plug converter from BestBuy. My laptop, shaver, cell phone charger, etc... all worked fine on 240 with the plug converter. You've got 2 weeks, so Amazon is an option, too.

T-26 hours and counting.....

so, this time tomorrow I'll be at the airport waiting to board the plane. I can't beleive it's almost time to fly. Been waiting 4 months and I think I'm ready w/ everything I need. If I don't have it, well, I'll get it over there. Paper work is in order, so at least that's taken care of.

I'll post back up as I can. Wish me luck on the ring and the flight!

sure wished I could ship that new BMW back home. Nice 128 w/ no sunroof would work for me.

Rodney, one thing you should note. They have speed cameras on the highways (mostly near the cities I think). I got hit with a bright flash on the ramp back to the Frankfurt airport and have had a few letters from Avis letting me know that they gave my info to the authorities. No official ticket yet, but I'm told it won't be inexpensive when it comes.

This will be your favorite road sign [ever] after the trip.

How much is that per day?

I just got back from Germany and had a nice Opel Insign for $80/day, which included insurance, 19% tax and $15/day for a GPS.

I had great luck w/ the car rental after I told AAA that my CC would cover car damages. AAA called my CC company to confirm. As it turns out, my 2 week rental is 572 plus 1.25 VAT per day. The 572 includes liability so in case of an accident people are covered and the CC takes care of car damage. Did not have to pay the 1700 deductibles.

While I'm there, I'll be sporting around in a Golf diesel wagon. This is just a bit larger than the Golf. Good thing, having to transport 3 people w/ luggage from the airport to Berlin would be tough in just a Golf. As for the GPS, taking 2 w/ me. My mom bought a new one w/ Europe already installed and I just down loaded Germany onto mine. One of them is bound to work over there.

So Jason, what where you doing in Germany?

Yes the speed camera are really well hidden. On the Autobahn when you see a speed limit posted follow it.
I got flash also in 2008 on a 2 lanes road, the camera was hidden in bushes, received letter from Avis and nothing else.
I returned 2 times in Germany since then and didn't heard anything of it, so I suppose they drop it. I will not used that example as a license to speed....

Have fun at the Ring, you will like it.

Hello all - we got here late Thursday afternoon. Flight from RDU was delayed for about an hour due to some of the passengers not clearing customs, had to stop the plane and remove bags. Landed in London about 45 minutes late and had to rush at Heath row airport. Had issues with TSA in London were they did not like the liquids packed in Pam’s carry on. Funny as this passed at RDU with no problem! They literally dumped out all the contents and stuck a wand in every pocket and crevice. Because of the delay we missed our connecting flight to Berlin and had to wait an extra 3 hours at Heathrow.

All of my German family as here at my uncles Dieter’s last night for a big dinner and lots of beer! (and LOTS of German talking - couldn't understand a word!) I had to call it “a day” last night at 11 German time after being up for roughly 30 hours straight with only cat naps. Even at 11 at night, there was still a minor dusk, amazing to see!

We went to Potsdam today to see the castle and grounds of Frederick the Great - very beautiful - took lots of pictures. While driving over with my cousin in his Skoda, I saw everything I’ve ever seen on TopGear; Renault, Peugeot, cars from Nissan and VW I’ve never seen stateside, and a great looking 128 BMW diesel wagon. Truly a shame that car isn’t stateside. Haven’t seen the first mustang though.

We left there and went to a Havel Mart, a 2 story grocery store and special escalators to get the carts up to the 2nd level - bizarre! You could by anything you wanted there - clothes, shoes, eyeglasses, plants bicycles, beer, wine, seafood, any kind of food, luggage, - all in one store - it was definitely one stop shopping. Walmart times 10! Only higher class!!

That’s all for now, will post back in a few days. Nurburgring is only 2 days away, can’t wait!
