TPM Problem on 2008 X5 4.8I. My X5 TPM light comes on whenever it is cold out. I reset the TPM through IDRIVE and for awhile the light continues to stay on but doesn't specify which tire is low on pressure, then after the reset everything goes back to normal. When I first purchased the car new this didn't happen for the first six months then it happened once every two weeks. I would put air in the specified tire and the TPM light would go away.I brought the car to the dealership and they said they couldn't find any problem with the tire or the sensor. I replaced the tire with a new one after having enough of filling up at the gas station every two weeks. No problem initially but now this is happening with the TPM.

i would bet six hard earned dollars that this fool does not own a tire gauge. but he is driving a $30K used BMW. poor dumb bastard.

I can't imagine why I'm responding a Remchak rant about something he saw in another forum, but ... I think any real BMW driver would just replace all of the tires with run-flats and put a square of black electrical tape over the TPMS warning light.

New Mini's show the exact tire ( I assume BMW does as well), probably easier for this fellow to trade.

Just got a nail in a new runflat (came with the new car should have refused purchase unless they swapped but I had beaten them up pretty good already) I broke my Harbor Freight plugging tool (info for another forum) so I took it to a shop to get it plugged. Was told they wouldn't plug it because the tire was designed to be run on when it was flat, made sense to me.

buzzzzz, that answer is incorrect. You CAN plug a run flat provided it's plugged from the inside and it's not in the side wall or right on the edge of the tread.

Ummm, isn't that the protcol for any "patch" (inside) of a tire, run-flat or otherwise?

probably, but the issue is that most shops will not patch a RFT. liability, stiff ass side walls, etc. etc.

even some dealers won't do it, but i am sure that is so they can sell a new one.

So what you're saying is that Cline misunderstood the tire shop he guy. He must have told Cline that he wouldn't plug it because the tire was designed to be replaced when it was flat. :)

You can buy the plug kits from pepboy, autozone and so on that allow you to push in the plug into the tire with out having to dismount. Works on non-runflats. I guess my point was you can only do an internal patch on the run flats according to folks like Jeb at Discount Tire.
