Bump for progress...
Engine v 2.0 is assembled and went back into the car yesterday (Memorial day). Just have to tie up the loose ends (install radiator, oil lines, attach wiring etc) and it will be back on the road. Hopefully it lasts longer this time.
Found a few extra issues with the first engine that could have contributed to its early demise, all of those items were a result of engine builder carelessness. By far the worst thing I found was a poor setting on my adjustable cam gear (do NOT, NOT, NOT assume that it was set pretty close by the manufacturer, I found out I was running the old cam about 24 degrees retarded). Got no one to bitch at but me... I suspect that was effecting power, and quite possibly influencing the long term reliability!
New cam is dialed in properly, I had to mix and match parts to get close to the advertised lift (0.475"), but that mix-match is pretty common on these engines (rocker arm geometry was not intended to work with such high lift).
I had a few issues with bad parts from one vendor, fortunately they caught one mistake (I wouldn't have) and issued a "recall" of sorts, that one mistake revealed two others that would have also gone un-noticed if they hadn't caught the first error.
