I started thinking about these when Matt and I were swapping his Si shocks. That's the only time I ever think about using them but after playing with these two kits I was thinkIng they might be helpful in other situations.

Do you find yourself using them for other stuff?

I could definitely see those being helpful, especially if your tinkering with different suspensions. Marcus, here's the 'bone' tool I was doing a bad job of describing. I picked one up for $15 from Sears to tighten up that front top nut on the side that was spinning.

I'm a bit of a tool geek, and definitely have a pretty big assortment of tools. I can't say I have a very strong desire to buy these pass-thru sockets, I just don't think they'd come in handy much, if at all.

Maybe if I was working on a giant erector set made with lots of long pieces of threaded rod- but otherwise, no.

I LOVE my gearwrenches, I think they'd do pretty much anything those pass-thru sockets would do.

As for the bone wrench, I think that might be a good "bare necessities" type tool, if you could only carry 2 or 3 different tools with you to do a job. I guess it would come in handy sometimes, but I wouldn't reach for it before my "normal" tools.

Harbor Freight has a pass-through set on sale for $25...Standard sizes through 19mm, also comes with SAE sockets. Since they aren't used very often, you'll probably get best value from a cheaper manufacturer. I picked up a set when I was over there getting a new jack, since I'll be removing the Bilsteins from the WRX and adding shocks to the S2000 in the near future. Sadly, I also couldn't resist the boroscope they had on sale as well....

I had a set of these given to me. I didn't really care for them, and eventually gave them away to get them out of my toolbox.

I don't recall ever having a situation where I needed them.

I have a Kobalt set I paid about $49 on the sale table. I use them occasionally. The are good when you don't have the right size deep well. The don't sub for a normal socket but they are useful.

Harbor Freight tools are the sluty girl of the tool world. The look ok but you are kind of embarrassed to be caught with them. IMHO.

I've had a set of these for about two years now, and they're not over worked. One of the biggest draw backs is the fact that the grearwrench ratchet presents a wider profile than a standard ratchet so it's not useable in tight spaces. A set of gear wrenches would be a better investment IMHO.

ive got the gearwrench set as well.

i barely use them. i think the only time i do use them is if I cant find my everyday socket set.

i thought they would come in handy a lot. but ive used them as "pass through" probably twice, and that was because I was too lazy to use a normal wrench.

i also have gearwrench ratcheting wrenches, so that may be why I dont use these pass through sockets. I use my ratcheting wrenches everytime i work on a car.

I didn't say anything was wrong with them, just there is a stigma associated with them. I have a friend married a girl of questionable (well not really questionable to those of us who were at those party's) past and they have been happily married for 20some years so it can work. I have some cheap tools that live in the drawer with craftsman and get along well.
