i'm in for practice. is this something that would affect our driver rating or whatever it's called? because i still suck pretty bad, i've been using practice sessions w/o other cars so i don't destroy my or other people's ratings. i've bought vir and ra but no other cars.

Zach, how do you turn 1.02xxx at Okayama? I can't get faster than 1.04! I think I'm losing time coming off the uphill ess, but going any faster just pushes me off the track.

please tell me you mean 2:02, not 1:02!

Ha! No it's the Okayama short circuit. No worries!

No... practice sessions do not count against your SR or IR... even "official" practice sessions with other cars.

What I'm talking about tonight is a hosted session... which doesn't affect either... either. Basically it would be a private session just for us.

We can even password protect it if we want

I'm rebuilding my iRacing rig this afternoon (upgrades!), hopefully if all goes well I'll be online this evening. I have a commitment after work, so it'll probably be 9 or 10pm until I'm online. Stacy, I confirmed your friend request.

Maybe one person (Stacy?) should start the session and invite everyone else (if that's possible), or everyone can join the host's session by clicking the steering wheel icon next to the player name in the 'myRacers Online' list.

I dunno man, I just drive it FLAT OUT!

I'm not sure I can explain it, I suppose we could join a session together and you could watch me, but it might be easier to watch this youtube clip instead.

The biggest trick I found on Okayama is to get yourself full track right coming out of turn 2, so you can be full throttle all the way to turn 4. Also, are you taking turn 6 flat?

I'm open to hosting... I'd prefer Okayama I think... but Lime Rock is cool too.

I'd lean towards Okayama short, just cause that's the track for this week's official sessions, and maybe with some private practice, you newbs will jump into a race with some more confidence.

So lets go ahead and make it so:

Time: 9:00pm - 12:00 midnight
Car: MX-5 Cup or Roadster
Track: Okayama Short

If enough people want a different track, I'm cool with that... assuming the series is back at LRP next week, that's cool too.

Does everyone have a headset?

i'm in but being a total n00b i've no idea how to join events or network with other drivers or any of that stuff. no headset either, at least not yet. and i WILL hit you, possibly intentionally but more likely because i haven't even come close to getting the hang of sim driving.

Try practicing with one of the open cockpit cars like the Star Mazda as that provides more ability to "feel" yaw rotation as your field of view is not confined by the cockpit surroundings. It really helped me get up to speed. In fact, back when I used iRacing that's all I ever drove after I discovered it.

everyone here signed up for iracing because it's the most realistic driving sim. i'm trying to maintain the verisimilitude.

No worries Jason... I'll open up the session @ 9:00... So anytime after that, login and mouse-over the "hosted" tab on the member screen. Click "join a session" or whatever they label it now. That will take you to a list of sessions.

Look for 'THSCC practice'

On the far right of the listing you'll see a green box with a pad-lock icon. Mouse-over that to open the password box... Enter THSCC and go from there.

It should ask you what car you want to drive between the cup car or the roadster.

You can't change that choice later (unless they've updated that since the last time I hosted anything).

Holy heck, the Fanatec stuff all just showed up. Only unboxed the CSR wheel, but that thing is a work of art. OMG.

that was neat, thanks stacy. i suck but am getting slightly less sucky as i play more. i think i even saw a 1:04 lap once!

running on an old t60 laptop driving a 1080p tv via vga apparently isn't the hot setup, fps is in the 20s but often dips into the teens and stutters quite a bit. plus i'm playing 1.5 handed since my right hand is in a splint due to a torn thumb ligament. i saw you guys chatting during the session but had no idea how to participate until the very end.

the big tv is nice but i have no peripheral vision (can't see the apexes in slow turns) if i set the fov to 45 or 50, but if i set it higher i can't see anything far away or judge distance worth a damn. might have to get that triple display sooner rather than later. not sure if my fanatec steering wheel is configured properly, doesn't seem to provide much feedback on what the wheels are doing (i can't really sense understeer, oversteer is a little better but not much). it self centers ok and provides resistance but the force is fairly constant regardless of cornering load.

still a great deal to learn, it's like starting all over again! next time we should set up some way to do a series of short races (in practice mode), just an agreed upon system like every 15 min we all line up at the end of the front straight (where we enter the track) and race for six laps or whatever.
