What does it take to make a WRX power oversteer in a right hand turn on to a freeway ramp in cool dry weather? Somebody (not me or anyone I know afaik) managed it today. $$$ impact :? :?

And likely shit tires, particularly on the rear, due to too much hooning. Or maybe even shit tires on the rear on purpose...

In my experience, not possible on a stock car. Why do you think it was power oversteer? I'd put hard cash on a bet for lift throttle oversteer.

Mike,

Makes sense. Without going into detail I guess there was enough time/distance for the driver to react to power push by lifting between when I heard the induction noise and immediately looked in my mirror to see the car going sideways and then hitting the inside guard rail hard enough to crumple the right front fender.

5 bucks on lift-off oversteer. I'll put 10 down on "atrocious driver" as well.

the turnaround proved to me, that doing power on oversteer was possible in first gear.

Last weekend I saw an orange Lotus about fifty feet way up the bank on the right side of the HW54 onramp to 40 east (a right hander) in Chapel Hill. How the hell did that happen? I would think if they took the turn too fast the car would have spun off to the left of the ramp.

Oversteer rotates the car towards the inside of the turn then the rear gets enough traction to stop rotating while pointed to the inside of the turn. Happens a lot with oversteering cars. In fact I did it once in my 69 Mustang due to rear brake lockup into a left hand corner and came close to going over a very steep bank in the hill's near San Francisco. In my case the car stopped "just" before the front tires went over the edge of the inside shoulder on the other side of the road. I literally decided "no more spirited back road driving until I learned how to actually "drive".
