Driving on 147 going to work and something in the road (looked like a garbage bag got torn up in the area) got run over by the car in front of me and flung it into my front bumper. It looked like a large flat piece of styrofoam (from the side of packing a TV), but from the damage, it must have been plastic.

Busted the lower grill insert, scratched up the bumper a bit, smashed the A/C condenser (oil and freon is leaking) and from the inside of the engine bay I can see the back of the radiator slightly bulging so that has to be replaced too. Probably $2k in damage so a $500 deductible is worth paying.

Performance Automall did Laura's Accord when that bus scraped her car up and did a very good job (I dont' think I need a new bumper, just a sand and respray......luckily there is no more body damage) and they are a USAA preferred location so if I'm not 101% satisfied, USAA will raise hell with them.

Is it in my right to request that they use OE Honda parts on the condenser, PAG A/C oil, grill insert and radiator? I mean the car only has 6000 miles on it.

They should do OEM parts with out question on a car that new. Make sure they understand the item was airborne when it hit your car so it is a comprehensive claim and not collision.

Yep, she has already processed it as comprehensive.

I already have a nice list of Honda OEM part numbers for them :). They have an Acura division on site so they should be able to get Honda parts very easily.

Absolutely. State Farm had no problem doing this on my Integra and the Is300 when they went under the knife.

Bummer! Good luck with a quick, and quality fix James. I had a car in front of me kick up what looked like some plastic window blinds the other day on 540. There's so nice big scuff marks on my bumper cover that I hope come out.

I'm sure they'll have a laugh once they get your bumper cover off.

That's only if they remove the foam that covers that aluminum bumper beam :).

Was this on the expresssway at Alston Avenue? I ran over that stuff too - looked like several sheets of insulation of the type installed between studs in a house, no more then 2" thick. It was lying flat on the pavement, so I just drove over it. In an 18 year old Taurus with a salvage title, you don't worry about road hazards :)

I learned this a few years ago when I had a truck tire carcass get kicked up in front of me on I-40 while in heavy traffic. It was in mid-air when it hit the front bumper and wrapped around and crumpled part of the fender. It was in the air and not on the ground when it hit. The insurance adjuster say "You say it was up in the air?" and then went on to explain the relevance of that fact.

When I was an adjuster I had an insured tell me the wire shopping cart had become airborne and blown into the grill of her car.
