The current VP/General Manager at my employer has been daily driving a turbo Porsche for years . . . in all kinds of weather including snow. I have no idea whether he has problems or not. The few times I've talked to him about the car there have been no complaints. However I suspect he doesn't have the opportunity, etc. to drive it very hard. Too rich for my blood in any case.

i love old school minis. the lsd issue is what got me out of them though.. i got the subie.
bmw is wonderful car, german cars mmm. up to you man....

Thought about a WRX as well. Need to drive Kevin's car to get a real taste of how the car feels.

Absolutely 100% love my WRX as a 4-door daily driver. So much more of a rewarding driver's car than the 540i which it replaced. Then again, I'm "into" cheap cars these days, enjoying the heck out of the simplicity of the car compared to BMWs.

An RS America with a true 16k miles and proper provenance would likely sell for $50k at auction I would think. This is probably a salvage title car that was pieced back together or something. In any event, it's not far from the truth that buying an older Porsche is the cheapest part about the experience of owning it.

uhhhhh, no. No cobalt for me, just not my style. I did price out a new 6 banger mustang today on line and once it got over 30k I quit. Now where the hell did I put that winning lottery ticket so I can order my Bugatti super sport....

I just went through the "buy a new car for the wife" routine. I tried to get her into a 6cyl mustang. I think they are the best value in a new car (and I hate new car prices but that is another story) I was going to get a base which I think can be had for around 21k according to what a client of mine did. She wouldn't go for it.

FYI other than color always being green and some interior/exterior trim the 2001 Bullits only "functional" change compared to other GT's afaik are the readily available bigger "Cobra" brakes compared to the standard GT brakes. I

330hp vs 300hp (it comes with a tune and intake)
Slightly lowered springs
bigger front brakes

But those three things are cheap and easy to change on a GT, as well as the grill and spoilerless trunk. I wouldn't pay a premium for a bullit simply because it's so easy to duplicate it, and you could do it in whatever color you want.

I just remember top gear doing a bit on the top 3 german marks in regard to everyday people carriers and this was one of the cars. Nice and understated w/ tons of power. I am living proof of champagne tastes on a beer budget....

So Mike, any recommendations of certain years to look at? Any gotcha's I need to be aware of? A WRX would be fine, don't need the STi. That's a very bold statement to say it's better than the 540 it replaced. THAT was a nice car. I think the problem here is finding one that hasn't been beat to death by a teenager....

lol... I had the 330 vert after the mustang and that's it. I liked the mustang, a lot. I hated the mustang, a lot. If I could have the new interior on a 07-09 car, then I'd keep it. I'd had enough of the plastic interior on my 07. Also hated the nose dive when braking hard. If I could find a great deal on a 08 bullitt, I'd consider that as well, but everyone's a little too proud of those and the prices just aren't coming down.

The nosedive is easily resolved with a set of springs and good shocks.

I think Jason is referring to the newer Bullitts than the 2001's I was describing. The 01's had the same 265 HP as the normal GT (at least "rated HP") but a little more torque.

http://media.ford.com/press_kits_detail ... on_id=2870

If you happen to like the 99 - 2004 versions of the GT the lower cost would allow more money for a small mod class car that you could tow with the GT. There are Airlifts (air bag type) for the rear of the Mustangs through 04 which can get the rear height back up from the tongue weight of a trailer (did this with my 88 5.0) :) :)

I'm enjoying the luxury of my 2012 compared to anything else I've owned as a daily driver. I never really liked a Mustang as an autocross car since there is very little opportunity to use the power. (My first autocross was in a 69 Mustang by the way but I got hooked driving 240 and 260Z's which did rather well in their day).

Springs aren't stock class legal, really want to to stay stock class for what ever I buy. I need to real in my spend on cars and start to refocus on the house. It's been neglected over the past few years.

The 2.0L engines seem to be much more reliable (02-05). The 2.5L WRX (06-07) seem to have more problems than they are worth and have worse gearing.

The 02 WRX has the weaker tranny so if you really want a bugeye (02-03) it might be worth finding an 03.....particularly if the PO was 16 years old.

Todd Breakey had a SN95 for sale a few years back and I looked at it, but it didn't have enough headroom which is my BIGGEST problem when it comes to cars. So many cars I'd like to own and autox, but simply don't fit in the car w/ a helmet.

Not a fan of the bugeye styled front end, so I guess that's out as well.

Maybe I need my 70 Cutlass back 8)
