I liked the mustang, a lot. I hated the mustang, a lot. If I could have the new interior on a 07-09 car, then I'd keep it. I'd had enough of the plastic interior on my 07. Also hated the nose dive when braking hard.

As long as they doesn't squeak and rattle I don't really care what the panels are made from. Diane Melton's Z3 has a steaming pile-o-crap interior. The panels don't fit right or even stay attached, not to mention other normal Hans issues. The panels fit very well in my car and I have no unwanted noise. Besides, all I hear is that sweet sounding V8's through the unmuffled exhaust. 8)

I know the nose dive you speak of was really bad in the SN95 cars, but mine doesn't have that issue...maybe because mine isn't stock?

Rodney, this looks like a fun car to autocross in TIR class and daily drive (especially on the highway). This '02 is a rare combo of no sunroof and the cloth seats. I gave up after 6 months looking for that combo when searching for mine. I don't have any affiliation with the Weavers but this one might be worth mentioning. M3 S54 rasp at WOT = droooool

This I'm going to have to go look at. A little over my price range, but maybe.... Good to read the bearing issues was fixed in this M3.

FYI, this car was sold at auction by Carmax just recently, and that is apparently where Weaver bought it. I just searched the VIN again, but the Carmax auction page is gone now. The pictures of it from Carmax were pretty horrid, especially the interior...bad enough that if makes you wonder about the care the car received in the past.

I would go over this one with a fine-tooth comb, a paint meter, etc, etc. I'm guessing they paid maybe $14k-15k at the most at the auction, detailed it a bunch, perhaps fixed a few things, etc. Ideally it will have records of all service and oil changes, etc.

Oh, and ALL E46 M3s with production dates prior to sometime in early 03 (I think, could have been late 02) had a recall to replace not only the rod bearings but also the oil pump I believe. Hence essentially all of them should have had this "service" done...which can easily be checked by calling BMWNA with the VIN or running through a dealer system.

One more thing...their add says "Inspection I and oil service just done" which doesn't make sense really since an oil change is part of the "Inspection I". Also, in the range of the mileage of this car, it should have just had the Inspection II done, not I.

I really don't understand the pricing on the Bullitts. There is one on CL in Benson listed for more money than I paid for mine brand new.

You'll notice that they only sold them for a couple of years. That was on purpose, so you would not take them for granted. If you want to be Steve McQueen and can't afford his old Lusso http://jalopnik.com/5252193/steve-mcque ... do-for-you or his old 911 http://editorial.autos.msn.com/blogs/au ... b413d131c6, you pony up for the Bullitt. Like you did.

Chuck, how did you get access to Carmax auction's website? You have to give an SSN to register...can you view inventory without registering as a buyer/dealer?

The nose dive is a feature that helps you see the pivot cone more clearly. Do I have to explain everything to you? :P

The whole Carmax auction page for this M3 showed up on a simple Google VIN search and was open to the net...perhaps indicating the "security" of Carmax's entire web service. ;) As you correctly supposed, one of the last things I would ever do is provide my SSN to Carmax. :D

I'm more of a Paul Newman fan. I got the Bullitt for the power & suspension upgrades and the 3.73 gears - although I really like the understated styling. Now if I could only drive it . . . :)
But I really didn't (and still don't) expect it to be a collector item in 20yrs. They made 7700 of them - not exactly exclusive. Hell, only 300 Cagiva Gran Canyons were imported to all of North America. I've only seen 2 or 3 and I paid less than 1/2 the new retail price for mine when it was only 3yrs old with 6k miles on it. I know this is apples and oranges - just saying rare doesn't always equal valuable.

Back to Rodney's dilema: faced with the same decision two years ago, I was thinking similarly - used 335is or new Bullitt.

A buddy of mine at work just bought an '08 bullit. If you see one, try and talk them down, he talked them down several thousand dollars from their asking price. They price them as if they are collectors, hoping to have a collector buy one, but if they sit around enough, they will bargain.

From what I've seen, the initial asking price is absurd. Once I get them down a few grand, it's priced where it should have been to start with. Dealers are WAY to proud of these.

There is an '01 Bullit at the dealer here in Sanford for $18k

For reference, my buddy at work bought his, with ~25k miles on it for $23.5. Original asking price at the dealer was $28k

his recommendation was "tell him to look on imboc.com in the "steve's car lot" section
there are usually some really clean cars at pretty fair prices" whatever that means.

I have a tighter budget than that. Really don't want to spend over 17k in total on a new ride.
