Another excellent find Art. I'm sure there's no catch to this at all

At the meeting last night, I sat in Pete's 05 WRX and low and behold, guess what..... yeah, that's right, no freaking head room. Dammit! This really sucks to find a stock class car that I can fit in w/ a helmet. Right now I see my options as the cooper and 3 series bimmer, both w/ no sunroof, late model mustang or a 07+ VW GTI. Sat in one of those w/ a sunroof and still had plenty of head room.

Anyone have any suggestions on what you would consider a head room car? While I looked at Nelson's car last night, I'm not 100% sold on buying this. Still open to some suggestions here....

lol.... I have one, a '90 e30 convertible, but it's an occasional driver and it's an slushbox car. No autox for it. Besides, I'm trying to see if I can get this thread up to about 30 pages or so

oh, the drama.....

Have you tried reclining the seat back more? Pretend it is a formula car. If you wear bifocals/progressive lenses you may need the reading area lowered.

Seriously that is what a very tall (6' 4" or so) friend of mine had to do with his 240Z.

This. Or do what my father does (all 6'7" of himself). His DD is my old E30, he had me take "Frank's" old seats, custom make brackets so he had some bolstering and made the seat sit closer to the floor. I also made it so he can slide the seat all the back for more leg room. He fits in it well, has room for a helmet and its in a car he enjoys to drive. He wouldn't be able to drive this car comfortably much less fit in it with a helmet without the modifications. To him its just what you have to do if he wants to drive anything other than a truck/suv/van

YMMV

I can't remember if you've sat in my 2009 WRX, but there is a lot of headroom, not including the up/down adjustable seat positioning.

Just a thought.

That's new(er) stuff and it starts to get out of my price range. I would like to sit it in though just for grins....

This is exactly what I've done w/ the 328 and added after market seats. The problem now is ST class is going away and I'm forced to go to STX which means spending more bucks to stay somewhat competitive and I'm tired of being beat up on the street in that car. Those are both reasons I'm looking for a decent stock class car that I can fit in w/ a helmet.

Sure. Depending on your price range, mine might be a match. The 2009 won't be a national Stock class competitor, but I've had fun driving it--a lot of fun. The 2008 is slowish for a Stock Class car, but if/when it gets added to STX it will be a great addition to a challenging class. I'm considering selling my 2009 to get into a cheaper DD and use that for partial funding toward an STR S2000, so let me know what works for you. (mine comes with new Conti DWS, if that helps.)

Being 6'4" it took me about 6 months to find a 240sx without a sunroof but still a manual. That was 9 years ago and it was a unicorn then. I imagine it would be even more difficult now. Headroom in our e36 and e39 have been adequate as well. I have a 6'1" friend that fits well in a Mazdaspeed3 with a helmet. I'm not sure if that's a direction you are willing to go.

That's an interesting thought on the mazda 3. Need to look down that path. Thanks for the option!
