So REALLY? After getting all excited about running D-Stock against Maria and Rodney, it might just be me and my wife next year?

Had some email threads w/ Jordan today and he's not opposed to running r-comps. Not out of the picture yet, we're still deciding on what to do. In regard to the JCW car, those were above my price point. Figured I was lucky to find this one configured the way I wanted and the chrono package is the kicker.

So I guess the thought is now, if they are putting the JCW car in DS and you're allowed to put JCW springs on the car, are brakes next? That would be nice.

So much to learn in regard to this car and what the correct mods are. So did I hear right, Maria is going to DS and moving from TIR?

Not a rules guru, but I suspect you can't swap JCW springs onto a regular S, for the same reason you can't swap S2000 CR springs onto a regular S2000. From an earlier sccaforums discussion, you can't even bring a dealer-installed JCW to DS...only port-installed, with documentation to prove it is a legit install. Yuck. GLWT.

Gwen has researched and was able to put the JCW springs on her non-s mini, don't see why that's excluded for the cooper S. If I can't run the springs, not a show stopper.

The JCW R53 has ECU tuning that the R53 MCS does not have. To do a package swap and be stock legal, you have to do everything and Mini probably won't reflash your non-JCW ECU to a JCW ECU spec :).

With the HS mini, it was only suspension (springs and rear bar right?.....front bar is open obviously) with the JCW option, so you can swap the package quite easily.

That's not what I'm reading on some of the other forums. Looks like springs and rear bar are legal for the DS cars along w/ HS.

For the HS Mini the JCW springs and rear sway bar were a port option for n/a Coopers, '07 and forward. You'd need to research if that was also a port installed option for the S, and if so, for what years. Our primary sources for research were North American Mini, and National HS drivers who were willing to have paper thrown on them during the year to bring the decision to the forefront. Good Luck.

Was the basis for my prior post, although I hadn't looked into it in some time mainly because of the documentation issues when I was considering a JCW a few months back. A post in August intimates that this has been approved for DS Cooper S cars, but I couldn't find independent confirmation.

I'll have to do some additional research. If I can run the springs/sway bar, that's a bonus, if not, oh well. Can still replace the shocks/struts and have a blast.

Absolutely. And I would never protest it.

Edit: I wonder if the JCW is like a "package conversion" similar to the MX-5 MSR package? That may be how you could use JCW parts, but you'd have to get the 2006 parts in accordance with how it could be configured at a Mini dealer. Ugh...sounds like a hassle.

For the R53's, the JCW package was never a port install option. It was a FACTORY option, or a dealer option if I'm not mistaken. Basically, only 2006's are even possible unless update/backdate somehow brings it into play which I didn't think it does for stock class. I don't really know how that works.

Ours is a factory JCW, I've got the window sticker (and hole in my pocket still) to prove it.

The dealer installs DID include the ECU reflash though (and the ridiculously rich high rpm tuning that came along with it).

Springs/bar are 07+ options only for stock class. All JCW suspension options for R53's were dealer installed unless you have an 06 JCW GP.

Well, there you go... I think I'm still good to go right now w/ some shocks and struts. Any recommendations there? Is an updated front bar needed on these cars? When I drove Nelson's, it seemed pretty balanced thru the turns. Just no stick from those beat up run-flats.

The MSR package thing brought on a whole can of sh!t here, and all over the SCCA community, a few years ago. Do a search and see how that whole mess turned out. It was quite ugly!

I'm aware of that mess, and the JCW "conversion" smells very similar to that.

Yes it does and I'm surprised someone hasn't pursued that protest yet. Maybe someone hasn't won a national level event with converted car yet?

Hell, if someone would throw paper at half of the DS field for a missing intake filter gasket and at another DS car for improperly routed vacuum lines, someone will at a converted JCW car.
