I made my comment with 0.0 knowledge of a RS America. All I know is from the dawn of the 911 a RMS is a every other year maintenance item, axles go bad easily, the transmissions are clunky, clutchs are finicky etc etc. So I came up with the $4-5k of 'work' comment not knowing that car is worth 40k +

Seems the IMS bearings are MUCH beefier and less prone to failure on the 997s (996 had lots of problems with them) and the gearbox in Ram's 987 CS feels VERY nice compared to the 993 and 70s model 911 I drove. Also the oiling issues should be gone on the new engines 09+ (9A1?). Hopefully Porsche's DI system works well and doesn't have issues longer term.
*sigh* Pretty much ALL that stuff is blown pretty far out of proportion, I think. Most axle breakers are doing a lot of drag starts. IMS bearing failure isn't *that* likely on earlier cars, either. It's just one of those things that the Internet makes look a lot worse than it really is. As for Ram's 987, I hate to tell you, but that gearbox isn't even a Porsche box...it's a repackaged Audi box. It's decent, but not *quite* up to par with the more recent Porsche boxes.
You want problems? Ram starts tracking his car and he could see gearbox problems. Those gearboxes have oiling issues if you track them heavily. There's a mod you can do with a recirc pump that fixes it, though. Ask me how I know...
Go buy a first year Turbo Cayenne and try to tow ANYTHING with it. Oh, wait, you probably can't find one still running.

There are Porsche problems, but I think some get overblown a lot...
And even if that wasn't an RS America, that model 911 alone would be worth WAY over that price with that mileage. Glad Rodney was smart enough to uncover the scam before stepping in it!
