Just saw the official announcement that IndyCar driver Dan Wheldon was killed in a big crash on lap 13 of the race today in Vegas.

I saw some video of the crash earlier this afternoon, and it was probably the biggest, nastiest crash I've seen. They airlifted Wheldon out and said at the time that his injuries were "serious".

RIP.

one more reason why real race cars have no business driving around in concrete bowls.

Sad for him, his family with small kids. I was talking to Julie about it and saying that these smaller "NASCAR" tracks are not really meant for these open wheel cars. The cars just run too close together and don't get spread out enough and there is a big disparity in drivers and cars

Very sad, I saw some quotes from drivers saying basically the same thing Steve said.
